Doctor Who as Mr. Men book series

BBC Worldwide has announced a new range of books which will depict each of The Doctor's regenerations in the style of Roger Hargreaves' Mr. Men children book series. The first four out of the twelve planned books will be released in April 2017. Book covers can be seen at the link.

These storybook mash-ups, written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves, combine the iconic storytelling of Doctor Who with the whimsical humour and design made famous by his father, Roger Hargreaves.

The first four released will be: Dr. First, Dr. Fourth, Dr. Eleventh and Dr. Twelfth.

I loved the Mr. Men (and Little Miss) series as a kid, so I love this idea! Pity it doesn't sound like they'll be covering The War Doctor, but I guess that's not kid friendly.

As a moral ending for kids, then "So it turned out after all that Dr War was actually the most Doctor-ish Doctor of them all" works rather well. But the title might be a bit off-putting.

Yeah, the price is a bit much considering how small the books are, or at least, I assume they'll be the same size as the classic series. I may just go for Dr. Fourth to see how they look and decide from there. And perhaps by April, we'll know when the remaining eight will come out.

Wow. That is really awesome. I read one of those books to my daughter, and I remember them from when I was a kid.

Must have...

Swwweeeeettt!

I use to have a whole bunch of the original Mr. Men figurines when I was a kid, but most of them have long since disappeared.

In addition to Dr. Second, Dr. Seventh, Dr. Eighth, and Dr. Ninth coming out today, I discovered on Amazon that there is a surprise Christmas special hardcover release for Dr. Tenth which will be released October 17. I don't know if this is in lieu of Tenth's entry alongside with Third, Fifth and Sixth or an additional entry for him.

Good thing they don't have a female Doctor. :)
Now that we do have a female Doctor coming, hopefully they're planning to do one for her as well.

It's an additional book.

I'm hoping that at some point Hargreaves will do War Doctor and thirteenth Doctor books.

Ah, good to know. Where did you read that?

Maybe if the sales are good, the fourth set can be Little Miss Thirteenth, Little Missy, Dr. Grumpy Pants, and Mr. Master?

My copy of Dr. Tenth: Christmas Surprise! arrived today. Fun adventure with Donna (because the story had to have Donna!), although I was surprised the story didn't make a connection to the Great Intelligence considering the snowmen. I guess they didn't because they already used it in Dr. Second.

It's an additional book.
I looked at Amazon's upcoming listings for Adam Hargreaves and it only lists Dr. Third, Dr. Fifth, and Dr. Sixth with no additional Dr. Tenth. Also, they have a release date of Feb. 6, which is a shame because I would've liked to give the whole set to my mom for Christmas.

Here's Dr Tenth. It's not on Amazon yet for some reason, but it is a separate book from the Christmas book.

Ah, good! Thanks for the clarification. I figured Amazon was wrong, but I wanted to make sure.

I see Penguin has all four covers up, too, which Amazon is also lacking.

The final four books (Dr. Third, Dr. Fifth, Dr. Sixth, Dr. Tenth) are now out.

In case anyone missed it, the February issue of Doctor Who Magazine featured a great profile of Roger Hargreaves, where he talked about his work, his father's work, his work process, and how the Doctor Who Mr. Men series came about, along with an aside about whether The Thirteenth Doctor would get her own entry.
