Actually, now that I think about it, having the IRS "win" could solve this whole 2397 problem. That's not a terribly big circle of Romulan space, though it's a pretty bad break considering that it looks to be the most densely populated section of the Empire, and almost everything below it in that image would've been obliterated by the Borg in Destiny. It's a shame the IRS couldn't hold it together; a couple years later, and Archernar Prime would've been the jewel of the Romulan civilization by default.
Also keeping Donatra would have been nice. Though I am also very content with Kamemor being the head of the RSE.Kind of a shame they reunited the Romulan factions, I guess. A timeskip and then dealing exclusively with the Imperial Romulan State (and just never mentioning Romulus, and making only vague references to the fall of the Romulan Empire) might have been a workaround, albeit a far less than ideal one.

Huh, I always thought it was pronounced "atsch-er-nar"Sorry, this is kind of a pet peeve: It's Achernar, pronounced "ack-er-nar" or "ake-er-nar." Nothing to do with archery. It's from Arabic akhir an-nahr, "end of the river" (because it's at one end of the constellation Eridanus, the River).

I could've sworn I checked the spelling on Memory Beta, too. I must've been thrown off by a redirect somewhere.Sorry, this is kind of a pet peeve: It's Achernar, pronounced "ack-er-nar" or "ake-er-nar." Nothing to do with archery. It's honestly kind of unfortunate that it was included as a Romulan planet in the books (though given the way Star Charts portrayed its location I can't blame novel writers for that), because logistically it would've worked much better to go from the Alpha Eridani reference in TOS and keep it as a Federation world that's just "below" Romulan territory.![]()
I have wondered why the novel authors picked that particular star. IIRC, TOS indicated it was a human colony (I'm guessing that's the TOS reference you're referring to?), and the (admittedly non-canon) FJ Technical Manual seemed to pick up on this and supported it being a Federation system with the inclusion of USS Achernar.
Right where I did a few posts up.Hobus makes an appearance in the Stellar Cartography update to Star Charts, but I don't exactly recall where they put it.
