Do you think we could have a 2 parter

Nowhere Man

Commodore
I was just thinking about Pirate of The Caribean what if we have a stand alone movie, but it could indicate a possible sequel like Pirates which would the n lead to a two parter where the second one clearly males it nescerry for a 3rd? I also wonder if there is a sequil how would they continue on with TOS era cast?

I think it's entirely possible that they can and will leave an ending open for further movies (in fact, several interviews with the writers and producers have had them indicating a desire for additional movies. However, I don't think they will make an ending that will force them into another movie. The Trek franchise is so fair weather, especially when it comes to making money, that they may do this first one and then decide they don't want to do another one. With the writers being fans (and I think JJ too, isn't he?) they understand that situation and realise how pissed they would be able to make the Trek-nation by letting an obvious unended story hang.

But I agree that it would work if they did what all three of the X-Men movies did: conclude their story, and leave indications of potential future stories.

I expect this film will end with Kirk's crew assembled and the Enterprise heading off on the earliest days of the five-year (or possibly a retconned "open-ended") mission. Satisfying ending to the story and wide open for another adventure.

This film is a trial balloon to see if the public wants to see more Star Trek and, more importantly, if they'll accept a Star Trek with new actors in the iconic roles. They'd be unwise to make it a "to be continued" film. More likely it'll end with some open ended "Out there ... thataway!" moment like we saw at the end of TMP which was also a trial balloon (one that nearly burst, you'll recall).

Cheers!

Alex

Can anyone confirm if any of those involved in STXI have signed on for more than one film?

I don't think there has been any offical signing up for additional ones, but the writers, producers, and I think Quinto have all made comments about hoping to do one or two more... I'll work on finding those interviews. I know I've seen them.

God I hope not. I never saw the third pirates of the Caribbean movie because I was so pissed off at the end of the second. If you can't tell a good story in the almost 3 hours that movies are these days, you are in serious need of an editor.

I had read a couple weeks ago that Quinto and the other bridge crew were signing three-picture contracts.

I believe the way it was phrased was "an option for two more," and as far as I know, just in Quinto's case (though I'd be surprised if they did that just for him).

I'm hopeful that they'll do one awesome film, then leave these characters to history, and give us a "spin-off" with other characters (ideally established during this film) as an ongoing series set in the same timeframe (and thus reusing the movie sets, props, uniforms, etc).

I really want to see new, "blank-sheet" characters. Yes, the "conventional wisdom" right now is that it's been tried, and has failed (referring, typically, to Enterprise or Voyager). But those failed, in my opinion, less because of the fact that there were new characters, and more because the shows were mismanaged.

Voyager's characters all just grated on me. Enterprise's characters were actually pretty good (IMHO) but the first two seasons were just scripted and directed and produced and so forth, just so BADLY that the actors had little room to make for decent characters. Had they just totally skipped the first two seasons and started off with season 3 (okay, the end of season 2), I think that they would have really gotten a much bigger success out of things. But that's just my opinion.

Voyager, on the other hand, was just so... annoying... that I could never stand to watch it. I made a point to catch certain episodes, but I always ended up walking off and doing other things... it was just unwatchable to me.

That had NOTHING to do with there being a new crew... that's my point. Kirk and Co. were a "new crew" once upon a time, remember. And the timeframe wherein they were at their most interesting was the timeframe during which they were the most unformed (again, IMHO).

I want "blank sheet" characters we can keep or toss out, change or transform... but I want them written well and acted well and directed well, not in the "safely formulaic" manner of latter-day Trek.

do you think they could do stand alone films from now on like Earth-Romulan War with The NX-01 cast and show the forming of the federation or Bring back Data or SIsko movies, I think theres a lot of unresolved issues in trek that could be explored

that a tiny group of people would care about, and would kill the movie at the box office.

Sisko? Who?

wasent it sugessted after nemisis there would be an Earth-Romulan war movie. I thought a lot of people wanted that. I don't know I'm just saying that maybe the futre movies could involse stand alone events.Sorry , I'm new to this just wanted to toss some Ideas around

true, millions don't I would like to see some of issues resolved maybe in animated form or something maybe just for fans I guess. I care more about fans than non fans who may not even see the movie even if you payed them

Are you talking to yourself there, buddy?

And yes, they had actually planned on doing a Romulan/ Earth war movie under Berman's command, but the whole idea was trashed for some reason.

I thought that seigezunt was talking to me, but I guess he left. I thought so about the war thing I guess after ENT. They gave up on it
