Kelvin design may not be Prime universe and as someone said, might not be seen until S2.

It is Prime Universe, being 514 well before 1031, and serving well before the universe split.

But, it's owned by the current (and because of the fourth movie ongoing) film series, so there will be bigger legal issues to using it than canon ones.

I think we'll see them sooner or later, but I'm under the impression the era will be visually reimagined somewhat. No doubt it'll be instantly recognizable, but it won't be exactly what the purists are hoping for.

If they go with the G. Koerner (sp?) version, that'd be right with me. It sort of fits right in with what I imagine an 'updated' TOS Connie Class would look like.

I figured we'd see one in the background at a starbase facility in the first episode to tell the uninitiated "we're in familiar territory to the non-fan".

If Bruce Greenwood does turn up as Pike, Christopher's head will go all Scanners-ish.

I keep seeing the hardcore types (Trekyards is guilty of this too) saying "Oh yeah it'll be somewhere between the style of THe Cage and the series and it'll be somewhat retro." Yeah, no it really won't.

No reason the exterior of the Enterprise should not look like the Cage version.

"One of the touchstones for the inspiration is we were looking at what is going to be the feel and aesthetic of a new Star Trek series? I think J.J. Abrams, in the 2009 movie, really launched a fantastic reimagining of what Star Trek could be in that Kelvin Timeline.”

It doesn't sound like they're looking to replicate 1960's Trek.

Other than it's not 1964 anymore? Technology has moved on a great deal in the last 52 years, leaving the look of the TOS era far, far behind. People really need to get over it - neither the ships nor the technology depicted are going to be identical to how they were shown in TOS, and it would look utterly ridiculous if they were.

Picking the poorest, colour faded, unflattering photo of something can make anything look bad. Try a better view with the right colour balance.

It still looks utterly ridiculous, because it's 50 years out of date. Even the production design of Enterprise looks outdated by 2016's standards.

All you have to do is get rid of those silly bubble lights on the consoles. Everything else looks OK. It doesn't have to be all orange and yellow inside though.

If we're going by the cage then there wouldn't be any color. The red rails would be black and everything else would be a blue grey color.

Or they could do something like this re imagined version Kelvington did.

The best bet would be to look at the interiors of aircraft carriers and modern navy ships. The look and feel of those vessels would translate well to a pre-Kirk era, and still reflect some of the tropes. Obviously the "tech" would have to be something new. Touch screen displays mixed with some push-button displays.
