Given that the new series will apparently the place in the 2250s, and that it's generally accepted that Constitution-class ships predated TOS by some years...

Do you think that STD will cameo any Constitution-class ships, or will the creators limit themselves to new designs instead? If they do give us Connies, will they be classical Constitution-class ships, perhaps similar to TOS Remastered, or some brand-new re-imagined ships like the TMP refit or the Kelvinprise?

I'm of the opinion that no Constitution-class ships will be featured in the first season. TPTB might want to save this for a significant episode featuring known TOS characters, which might not happen until later in the series. But it's just a wild guess of course, and for all I know a whole fleet of Connies could show up as soon as the January pilot.

Also, given that the first ship we get to see is inspired by past Trek designs, what might other Starfleet ships take inspiration from? ENT, Frank Josef, FASA? Something else altogether?

At the start of the series, Pike and the Enterprise are only a few years away. I see no reason we wouldn't see Constitution class ships, and I very much look forward to it.

From Memory Alpha:
According to Star Trek Encyclopedia, the Constitution-class lineage was launched some time prior to 2245, and served as Starfleet's front-line vessels for the rest of the century. The Constitution-class also served as a deterrent to both the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Star Empire, several times taking part in combat actions which determined the fate of the entire Federation if not the Alpha Quadrant itself.

It would be great to see the big-E make a cameo, though I wouldn't want them to make a huge deal out of it. At this point in time, the Enterprise wouldn't necessarily be 'special' - just another constitution class out exploring the galaxy, and the Discovery shouldn't be overshadowed in its own show.

The events with Pike in "The Menagerie" take place "thirteen years ago." If Discovery takes place ten years before TOS, Pike and Spock are already out there on Enterprise.

That fits in with a comment Fuller made about him liking the actor that portrays Pike in the reboot movies making a quest appearance. Now this means no more than his comment about liking Winona Ryder in an appearance as Amanda Grayson. But it does mean he's thinking about it.

I hope 1701 eventually shows up and is dressed as she should be, (vote) but she'll probably be sporting outrageous cringe-inducing updates.

After dealing with the Abomination for so long now though, I am getting past expecting great things about nuTrek ship aesthetics. Just blow my mind with Trekkish tales and I will be happy.

It would be special to some of us just to see her, and see her as she should look.

Agree. I hope they do show the Constitution class along with the production designs [uniforms, sets and props] reflecting "The Cage".

I wouldn't mind it if the inner grille on the nacelles had a glow added to it and the impulse engines. I've seen that done before. Other that and some more pronounced aztecing I wouldn't mess with it. What's not broken doesn't need fixing.

If they could make it look a little different - maybe slightly more 'primitive' than the TOS look, giving them wiggle room to change textures, finish and some small design elements. It should be recognisably Pikes Enterprise though.

You are kidding yourself if you think you will see Connies in S1. Listen to Fuller. He specifically said that it will not be until S2 that we see familiar faces- after the characters and feel from DSC have been developed then he will start to introduce canon pieces into S2.

I hope, and think, they will show a Constitution class starship. If they do, I expect the ship design will match the original. If they show the interior, I'm guessing that will be updated a bit.

I don't think we'll see on in S1, except maybe as a little tease right before the end credits of EP13 or something like that. From S2 onward I think the potential for a cameo is definitely there.

Familiar "faces" yes, but has he said anything specific about Constitution class ships?

That was a question. Has he?

Perhaps it could have the detailing of the USS Kelvin, but not look the design of the KelvinVerse Enterprise, as that was the result of Nero's time incursion.

I wouldn't expect the 1960s look to return at all, honestly.

Not that the old girl couldn't be lit and textured to look... Pretty darn good for a modern show.

Personally, I think the setting was already very different. I think it was already a very different alt reality before Nero showed up.

This is what I want, the good old Connie with modern textured and lighting. I also love this version, which fits with the ENT look.

I think I'd prefer to see the 60s style Constitution class with maybe a few minor updates, but I think I'd also enjoy it if they surprised us with something totally new.

Basically what I'm saying is I'm not super picky.

They've already stated the appearance of the era will be "suitably updated" for a modern production. So the Enterprise will likely appear, but changed up to suit a 2017 series in some way.

Not as much as the 2009 version, but still not anything from the 1960's/In a Mirror Darkly side of things either.
