do you think picard and riker ever had sex with subordinates?

P.s.: Who cleans the holodecks? They do make it clear that people get it on with holograms so... eeewwww

Holograms. Just create a few Holocustodians, and give them cleaning material and they can spiffy the room up and then have someone come around and turn them off and gather the cleaning equipment.

And according to Riker, the ship cleans itself...

Well Holograms are technically part of the ship. I wonder if in the corridors you have something kind of like the barrion sweep in that they can produce force fields and maybe they simply run through the corridors. PLus transporters can be used to to dispose of some material.

I would definitely say neither has done it in a "hey secretary could you come over here and XXX or else" kind of way. I bet Riker has had many a consensual one night stand with female crewmen who had a crush on the big strong hero (as I am sure Kirk did).

I could definitely see that. Riker was very good looking.

Chief O'Brien talked about having nothing to do in the transportor room. Maybe that's what transporter people do when they have long periods with noone to transport - a bit of remote control spring cleaning.

Hence why it is grossly inappropriate and unethical for a captain of a ship to get romantically involved with a member of his or her crew.

Except when said ship is on a five year plus mission exploring the galaxy, or if said ship is crewed mainly by Andorians (Shran's lover was under his command) or Picard has difficulty separating professional from personal, another human captain would not (Riker married Troi and they headed off for Riker to captain the USS Titan).
To expect Starfleet rules to operate solely under ancient, human cultural norms is not only speciest but hardly sends a message of exclusiveness for other species to join.

I'm sure alien species within the federation would have their own standards of behavior.

I'd also expect their to be some degree of uniformity as it is a military organization. Though I imagine rules would be applied while taking into consideration alien values and so on.

And the fact that human standards may change drastically over the next few centuries.

This doesn't seem to be the case though, or at least, it's very inconsistent. Anyone remember what Bajoran earrings represent? I forget, but I seem to recall they were deeply culturally meaningful (like family sigils, or a spiritual symbol etc). Despite which, officially no adornment or jewelry or such can be worn when in uniform, even if not in sight (VOY: The Good Shepard), which is contradicted by all of TNG, where Worf always wears his Klingon sash over his uniform. So it would seem that Starfleet has less respect for cultural values than current military (where you can usually wear something like a cross, if it is not in view). Hard to say what's about safety and what may be cultural marginalization.

Janeway told B'llanna she had no problem with religious people in service so long as they didn't you know perform stuff like child practice.

Though perhaps Starfleet loosened up some in the later 2370s(not that Voyager would have known).

As to did they? Riker, yes... it is implied he is intimate with Troi, who as lieutenant commander is his subordinate, on many occasions.

Probably not, in season 5's "Violations" a memory-dream had (bearded) Riker trying to persuade Troi that they both had romantic feelings for the other and should act on them and Troi saying not while they're serving on the same ship.

Prior to the beard they were very intimate... until they finally had the whole oh it's not gonna work conversation (I can't recall at which point) and seemed to date around for a while. I'm sure I could find examples of where sexual intimacy is implied during that time, and probably others.
Unless Riker really did try to rape her at whatever point in time the Violations scene is a memory from, at least some of that seems to have been a mix of what had happened (a memory) and was happening (Jev assaulting her to get the memories... and maybe more...).
I'm not even sure he didn't sleep with Troi in Conundrum... yeah, first Ro, all steamy, then Troi, all romantic, then Ro again...
I don't mean to malign him, I don't quite see him as a dog or anything... but before True Q I would swear there's wasn't a woman he didn't hit on (including Lal) and just got the impression that he's very open about sex in that sense, and he likes the ladies, and is quite a charmer...

I think it's odd that humans three hundred years from now in a science fiction setting would still have our hang-ups. It's just another area where humans really haven't changed, even though they always like to pontificate about how they have. This differs from certain literary science fiction.

Incidentally, when this thread appears on the main page under "New Posts," the title gets abbreviated to a different question altogether...

As for question posed by the topic title: probably Riker did. He seemed to enjoy dating and clearly Starfleet doesn't have a non-fraternization policy, so why not? And obviously he and Troi are married and posted to the Titan together. Picard, probably not, because he's simply more reserved by nature, and after "Lessons" may hold the personal opinion that it's inappropriate.

As for what the original post seems to be asking (apologies for not quoting directly but the quote function doesn't seem to work on my phone): do I think Picard or Riker used their positions of power and authority to pressure or coerce subordinates into having sex? Absolutely not. And that's not being a Mary Sue or a paragon of virtue, that's meeting the minimum requirements of not being a creep.

I would give Riker, and for that matter Ro, a pass on the events in "Conundrum" as they were, quite literally, not themselves. And I think it's time to end all the "who cleans the holodeck" jokes as there is transporter tech there, hence the solid objects, so anything "left behind" is just dematerialized.
