Do you think Lorca is a "good guy" or "bad guy"?

I'm imagining Lorca going to be a guy who in a more cynical series than Star Trek would be a good guy or a necessary evil but will be a bad guy in Star Trek. I'm hoping this will basically be STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS minus all the suck--which, admittedly, is just DS9.

Lorca will advocate special weapons and tactics against the Klingons until they reach a point that's abominable like figuring out he can blow up Praxis or the Klingon sun when Michael will put an end to him.

I think you're exactly right. Burnham will end up a hero, get reinstated into Starfleet, etc.

He IS a Star fleet Captain.. been called war mongering by one of his crew.. is manipulative and has that creature.

I'm leaning toward him being Ransom bad.

I think like Sisko he will have to make some tough decisions, but without any guilt feelings. Ultimately he will be the good guy.

I think he's a robot from the future pretending he's a guy who's either good or bad, but is in fact evil because all robots are evil, except the good ones, so he might be good. :p

Based on Jason Issacs himself, I don’t believe he chose the role to be typecast as another villain (he’s done plenty of those over his career)

That’s the impression I have, based on interviews with him, and his comments on Discovery the series and Captain Lorca in general - so it’s just my unscientific hunch that I’m going on.

My initial impression is a guy who wants to win the war, but at any costs. His goal is just but he may be willing to forget morals and ethics to do so...........which puts him in the wheelhouse of Captain Rudolph "Rudy" Ransom. We will see.

He's a star fleet captain at war. How often is war fair or just or honorable? I depends on which side you are on.

I think he is good, but very tough and willing to bend the rules to win.

In the end he'll turn out to be whatever the producers of this show consider to be TV Heroic. Because this is Hollywood War, which has not a thing to do and little to say about war.

He's the classic rogue captain, there's been a few of those scattered around the series. Why they'd pick such a type for a captain we'll be watching for years to come is another question...
