Do you still "tape" things?

I have one of those dual players (VCR and DVD), but I can't actually use it to tape anything (I think it's because of my digital cable box, or something). If I could still tape things, I very well might. If I miss something I wanted to watch, I can usually find it online somewhere, but that's not the case with every show.

My parents also have a dual player --two, in fact-- as well as another VCR, and they tape stuff all the time. They don't seem to mind it.

I occasionally catch myself saying "tape it," but I'm getting better about saying "record" instead. We do use Betacam tape at work though so sometimes it's on purpose.

I use the Italian equivalent of "record" ("registrare") or "record on disc" ("registrare su disco"), but then again, we never used "tape" as a verb. The closest translation would have been "record on tape" ("registrare su nastro"), which was used back in the old days but was kinda redundant. My VCR died many years ago.

I still say tape because I own a VCR and that is my only method of recording TV at the moment. I do not record nearly as much as I used to, though.

I suspect I'll still say tape even after we upgrade the technology in the house...like I still say album instead of CD.

I still use a VCR, so I say "tape." When I refer to other people's systems, I use "DVR" as a verb. Of course, I still say "on the air," even when talking about Cable shows.

As for music, I still say "record" and "album."

I also still say "dungarees."

I have three VCRs hooked up in my house with a fourth kept in reserve. I tape stuff on a daily basis.

I still use audio cassettes to tape music every once in awhile...

I still use audio cassettes to tape music every once in awhile...
Now that's a problem. Most movies and series that I "taped" from tv are being replaced by DVD or other digital supports, but I have loads of old audio cassettes with my beloved 80s music and I have nowhere to play them! One day or another I will decide to buy a cassette-cd audio converter...

... and use Brylcream and smoke Lucky Strikes. :D
A little dab'll do ya. I never smoked, though.

I do use other anachronisms, though, most of them deliberately. I still say things like "tonic," "spucky," "parlor" and "divan" because that's what we said when I was a kid in Dorchester. There's a few others, too; I'll Post them as I think of them.

You know, shows and whatnot.

Do you say, "I'm going to tape that" or "make me a tape" or whatever?

I've noticed in the music industry, it's still very common to refer to an album as a "record".

I still say tape.

Do you?
I said "tape" until a couple years ago when I finally got tired of my wife laughing every time I said it. "Did you tape the Sopranos?"
"Did I what? TAPE?!?!"
As far as calling albums records, I've noticed that the hip hop industry calls individual songs "records" which further adds to the confusion. "That's the best record on that album."

I still "tape" things, though I no longer have a VCR. My daughter knows what it means because she remembers having a VCR. My son does not. When I mentioned that I needed to tape a show for him, he very seriously said, "You can't, Mama. It's on the TV, not paper."

I also use DVR as a verb.

I record things on my DVD recorder, and upgrade my more rare tapes to DVD-R.

Does that count?

I still have lots of albums on cassette too. I even recently bought a new "boom box" with a tape deck when my old one started to show its age. My car still has a really awesome tape deck, so I often will put together mix tapes from my CDs to sing along with while driving.
:rommie:

It's not that I'm against MP3s and DVRs, but I've never been a hurry to switch to whatever new format is currently being pushed. I'll get to 'em when I get to 'em...
