Do you remember joining TrekBBS?

I do, indeed: I was searching the web for images of what the ship was going to look like for the new not yet aired "Enterprise" series, and I found an image posted in the TBBS Art forum (by Vektor, if memory serves.) After I looked around the Board for a few minutes, my eyes went wide and I felt like I'd landed in Oz: a whole virtual world populated by fellow Trek geeks. I was in heaven.

Similar story for me. I came across the BBS when I was trying to dig up some dirt on the new series. I actually lurked for months before I felt the need to sign up and comment. That was 10 years ago.

To put it in perspective, I was sill (barely) in my 20s and I'll be turning 40 this fall.

I found it randomly and posted an intro in Misc. No one said "hi" back and it was at least a year, maybe more, before I returned.

Haha don't worry, it was one post years ago and I had no clue as to how messageboards worked. I'd only just discovered that there were people talking about Star Trek online! I just assumed I had done something wrong/stupid.

I was Todd_Garak when I first joined this board. I can't remember how long ago that was but I remember DS9 was in its final season. Some of my favorite memories of being Todd_Garak was posting over in the Enterprise boards about being tired of all of the underwear threads going on. I then lost my login info and email address for that account so I lurked for a good year or so and then joined again as Maab. I've been Maab of the Ten Tribes since November of 2004.

Yes. It's been nearly 10 years! I joined up in 2001 after having been a lurker, trawling (not trolling) TBBS for info about this mysterious new "Enterprise" show.

I joined Friday, November Fourth, Two Thousand Five.
I think I followed a link here to the Fan Art forum from Scifi-Meshes.com and I stayed for the BSG forums, because BSG was huge back then

It was when the Terok Nor series of books was released (2008), and I was googling for information about the books. I forget what exactly I was looking for, but then I found that James Swallow was posting here and answering people's questions about the book, in the Treklit section of the forum.

Not long after that, the idea for The Thirteenth Order (my fanfic novel-in-progress) popped into my head, and I was here for what seems to be for good.

^ And that's why I joined.:bolian:

(almost 2 years now, doesn't the time fly...)

i joined because i wanted somewhere to talk Trek books. i was originally on booktrek.tk and then that went bye-bye. so i came here. had briefly joined before but was intimidated by the sheer number of threads and forums, and left. these days, i get by on not reading everything.

10 years this July, remember it quite scarily well actually. Obviously a pivotal moment in my life

I do.

It was December 22, 2000, and my first couple of comments were, to my memory, less than well-advised (for some reason the fourteen-year-old me decided to call Beverly Crusher a 'literal wet nurse' to Wesley Crusher, and I'm pretty sure I ended an argument about something - Jem'Hadar? - with a flippant 'nuff said'.)

I really don't remember how I found the place. I think I found TrekToday first. I spent most of the late nineties online trawling through the tons and tons of home made Star Trek websites that were flung up.

I'm sure some of you remember the kind - a website made by a Riker fanboy, or some episode reviews of the latest shows strung together on geocities, with some downloadable midis of Star Trek music, one hundred ways Wesley Crusher sucks, or some Star Trek desktop things.

Also Sev Trek.

Wait, where was I?

I joined August 1st 2001, looking for info on the upcoming Star Trek:Enterprise.

All that time, and only a commodore... I don't post much.

I joined two years ago (wow, time goes by so quickly), mostly for the literature forum. I was - and still am - a big fan of the Trek lit line and I stumbled across the BBS while searching for something novel-related. I lurked for months, enjoying the conversations and getting to know the regulars, and then one day a discussion thread about Romulans happened to coincide with some recent thinking on my end and I joined. Sent a few "help, I'm here and I don't understand anything" messages (keep in mind this was the first and to this day only message board I joined), and started digging groves into the lit forum. I also colonized the DS9 forum, which remains a haunt of my closest friends here, and eventually, after several false starts, ended up in here too, enjoying your company. Thanks for having me. :)

I'm sure I've mentioned this many times by now... I used to be a member of the Farscapeworld forums, and a fellow poster sent me a link to this place telling me it was lots of fun and I'd enjoy it. I checked it out a few minutes, made a quick decision it was not to my liking and went away that same day, only to come back some months later to look into possible VOY season 7 spoilers. The U.S used to air the show long before the U.K. Never looked back since. It has been an invaluable geek outlet. :D

SPOCKED has the nerdiest memory about joining, if I recall correctly.
Found the link to this board after a year or two of reading Jammer's Reviews. I guess that qualifies as nerdly :D

Same here, Jammers fault...:techman:

Me, too! I lurked for a while first- the board had just started up. I didn't join until April 2001. Wow, it's been ten years already! I remember my first posts were timid little things in the DS9 forum.

Not clearly. I think I joined in the summer hols in 1999 or 2000. I found this place looking for info on the final episodes of DS9. I remember finding a thread that was talking about the last few eps and people were ripping into the show, so I joined just to post my support for the show as it was coming to an end.

I rejoined on 22/12/01. I don't remember that at all or why I re-registered (apart from thinking I wasn't registered). I think it took me a visit or two to recall that I'd been here before.

I remember lurking the board for a few months before I first joined on September 11, 2002. Then I left (Asked for my account to be closed) and then came back on that Sunday afternoon after watching Way of the Warrior for the first time in a long time. Yeah, I'm probably getting to specific for being here 9 years ago, but for some reason it's a clear and good memory, and I hope I've added good to the board since then. :)

I also think 2003 was the year many Trek fans got reintroduced to DS9 (The DVDs came out) and man I don't think I've had that much fun here than that summer in the DS9 forum. People come and go, but that time was just purely awesome because it really was like everyone was getting into the show for the first time all over again.

I don't really recall the details at this distance (14th of March 2000 seems an awfully long time ago now), but I've an idea I blundered across TBBS via either Tim Lynch's, Jammer's, or Jim Wright's reviews. (Possibly all three. :D) I do remember that my first post was in a thread about...reviews , and the first person to speak to me directly was Neroon.

It's all been downhill from there, really. :D
