I have signatures & avatars turned off, even though I display both. Every once in a while when a thread like this pops up, or when someone starts an avatar thread, I'll turn them back on to see what all the fuss is about. But I mostly like having the extra space that hiding them gives me - don't have to scroll the thread quite so often, and I'm not tempted to read the same clever lines over and over and over and over and... ;)

I'm just happy that someone finally read my location. :D

I love your sig quotes right now! Big Vecchio fan, here :)

And Sakrysta - me too :p

I voted 9 - I do read them, but I've porridge for brains so I wouldn't remember who had which sig. I love reading them though. My apologies to everyone else who reads sigs for the fact that I haven't thought of anything funny or entertaining to put in mine...

If I read a post, then I read the sig. Sometimes, I can identify a poster by their sig.

I don't mind sigs, because they tell me right away which people to ignore because of their political or religious opinions, sometimes.

What I absolutely hate, with every fiber of my being, is the pretentious, vapid, douche-chill inducing act of signing your posts with your name and some word that you try to humorously link to the content of your post.

Annoyed,
Chess

:guffaw:

Love the second half of that, the first half

This reminds me to get a new quote for my sig.
I read them most of the time, an 8 for me.

I have to say, as much as I like shatmandu I'm compelled to agree.

I put 7 -- I don't make a point of reading every one and I don't always remember which sig belongs with which poster, but I still do keep an eye open for good ones, whether they're informative, funny or whatever.
I put an 8, and you described the way it works for me (too) quite well, hence the quoting. ;)

I can understand the sentiment, but I enjoy seeing how he ties his sign-off to his posts. That said, his are the only ones i like.

I'm sure he's a nice person with valid opinions. It just seems like a bit too much energy to try to stand out on a message board on the internet, which is basically a pointless exercise. IMO.

I'll read a sig if a word catches my eye. Otherwise I pass over them. And on the seldom occasion that I do have a sig I try to make it uplifting or funny.

It's part of the fun, for me, to tie it all up with a word or a phrase.

No hard feelings. This one's for you, Chess:

Joe

I do read sigs. In addition to previous comments; they can be funny, thought provoking, irritating but usually give an insight into the person.
I'm planning to alter mine to my epitaph,
'My ambition is to live for ever, oh fuck....'
