Do you prefer watching TV with the lights on or off??

Movies or anything really late at night (1am) - lights off.

Most of the rest of the time - ambient lighting on as I'm multitasking.

Now, when I use my desktop it's almost always without artificial light sources. I rarely have an overhead light or lamp on when I'm typing on the computer.

I prefer no lights as I've never been able to get away from the glare. If I do have a light on it's behind me to minimize glare.

I never understood the appeal of those curved TVs that were advertised for about five minutes last year and almost never since. Curving the screen only makes the glare worse, not better.

That's why military helicopters often have segmented flat-paned canopies rather than single-piece curved ones, so there's less glare. Also, it's easier to make laminate armor glass in flat panes.

It's not just the helos but most all modern aircraft.

It depends. I watch most TV shows with the lights on, but there's nothing like watching an old black-and-white mystery or horror movie late at night with the lights off. :mallory:

My tv has this trademarked feature called Ambilight (tm)... lights the entire wall behind the set up in colours fitting what happens on screen...so fantastic!
Our TV back in the 60s had a feature like that. It was called "vacuum tubes." :rommie:

Oh, I remember those! -they were so easy to fix, the transistorised tv's from the seventies required a bit more knowledge and instrumentation to fix... and these days: forget it, not possible...

I prefer watching TV with the lights off because 1) it feels like a more immersive experience and 2) it focuses my attention on the screen and not the books, magazines, comics, iPad, phone, or hundreds of other diversions within eye-shot of where I may be sitting.

^^ Sounds like me. :rommie:

Remember how they used to take about two minutes to warm up and then they'd throw that soothing orange glow over everything? :D

It depends on the time for me. Early evening I'll usually watch tv with the lights on. After 8:30, either lights off or soft light from a lamp.

Oh yes, just like the radio did!

I prefer to watch with the lights on. I like how it looks with the lights off at night, but it messes with my eyes.

Hey, some of those expensive and huge flatscreens with a lot of advanced features can get a guy's juices going.
