I don't know how people can bash the JJprise but love the TOS and refit versions. It doesn't make intellectual sense to me. I understand the emotions behind it, but there's no *logical* reason for it.

It looks like a misshapen turd, with proportions wrong, and placements of things different to give it that crushed together feel; as if a guy was constipated and sat pushing with all his might, and then that came out. It's a simple a little bit of aesthetics; same reason why one painting can look amazing, and the other looks ugly, even though it used the same colors and shapes.

Except this isn't a painting we're talking about. We're talking about a ship. It's shape is the same as the TOS and refit Enterprise, so how can it look bad? I fail to understand the incredible hate directed toward this new ship. It might not be to your liking, but why the vehement dislike?

I myself don't have a vehement dislike for it... but its not as BALANCED a design. The Enterprise, believe it or not, is a very anthromorphic design. The proportions here are like if someone messed with the proportions of a human being. In this case, a bobblehead-sized head and an exaggerated spare tire. It's one of those reptile brain type things.

I do like the asthetic choices, with a very 50s retro slant and clean look, it certainly DID surpass my expectations (I was thinking we'd get a greeblied-over monster like the Gabe Koerner Enterprise... *shudder*) but the proportions are a tad ill.

I swear the overreaction to this ship is simply astounding. It IS the Enterprise, whether anyone likes it or not.

No. It is not. It's like "New Coke" It's Coke but not really...;)

Then every other ship since TOS has been New Coke, and many of them have be great designs. Sorry, its the new design. One can bitch about all they want, and knowing Trek fans...we will...but it doesn't change the fact that this is the new design.

And honestly, looking at this design more and more, its a nice fucking design that keeps the basic elements of the TOS ship, and updates them in a style that is still Trek, but is more fit for a cinematic presentation.

This "Star Trek" movie will be nothing more that Capt Protron meets the kids from 90210. The ship is not the same. The uniforms are not the same. The story and history of Trek has been raped and reassembled in to some 20 something circle jerk. It is not Star Trek and never will be!

That said I home it opens at the Movie Grile...

Well for the 25 people who care...then it sucks to be them I suppose.

To the general public, the people who the filmmakers hope to see the film, it looks like a fun space drama/ action film, which is EXACTLY what I want out of a Star Trek movie. Those are the people who will make this film money. Not the people who think that the film is raping the "history" of Trek.

That is exactly what I hope happens also. But to pass this off as "Star trek" to anyone who has grown up with it is laughable. This will be a good science fiction movie and nothing more.

I hope that the new Battlestar Galactica miniseries does well... but to pass this off as "Battlestar Galactica" to anyone who has grown up with it is laughable. This will be a decent science fiction miniseries and nothing more.

NO!!! To me it looks like a parody of the original. As much one like the Jupiter II was in the Lost In Space remake. That seems like a legitimate "logical" reason to me?!?! :vulcan:

The shape is NOT the same. It uses some vaguely similar shapes, but it is NOT the same. The neck is too far back, making it look like the deflector dish got stuffed into the ship as it was squeezed out of the constipated sphincter and then thrown up as an after thought, it makes the ship itself look crushed together, the pylons at at the very end of the engineering hull, which highlights how small it is, it's like someone put it in a trash compactor, and let's not even talk about the ridiculous nacelles.

It makes the balance all wrong, and like I said, look like it a misshapen turd pushed out of a constipated sphincter.

In a starship, it makes painting right, and putting in the right balance all the more important. You can have Picasso do a painting and it'd look good, have Picasso do the Enterprise... and well, you get the JJPrise. Wrong and ugly in just about every way.

Yes. I'm happy with the updated version. It's not all that different from the old original and I like how it's a cross between the TOS and movie versions!
