so do you like them. they are the military and can be harsh but they do there jobs well. I personally think they rock.

They seem pretty cool to me.

And they're obviously badly needed, since (unlike the Federation Starfleet of later years) the Earth Starfleet is explicitly non-military. So the soldiers have to come from somewhere...

Side note: Did you notice that the mirror universe MACOS have a skull on their uniform patches, as opposed to the shark of the regular universe ones? I always thought that was pretty badass.

enteripse could use the help because there security not that very good.

Right and we don’t have to follow his vision like its some holy thing

Remember, Gene himself was a veteran - he served in the US Army Air Corps (the predecessor to the modern day USAF). So there's no reason to suggest that the existence of the MACOS would be an affront to his vision. He was by no means anti-military - of course he always portrayed Starfleet as not being militaristic, but there is a difference.

Indeed, I do remember reading that Gene once suggested that the Enterprise (in TOS) carried a platoon of Starfleet Marines, we just never got the chance to meet them.

My point is it should have been close.
And hey for all we know Malcom may have had some good training and remember Hayes had really no real training and Malcom had two years on an exploration mission where he had to fight real enemies

Yeah an he flew for pan am and was a beat cop so he incorporated a little of everything.

Agree. Hell, TNG didn't get good until he got his hands out of the cookie jar.

The "Gene vision" thing has been overstated forever.
Exactly I mean I’m not a war monger but I like seeing some pew pew. That why I like the last season of ds9. i t was nice to get a glimpse of the federation at war, not just border conflicts although only reason why He took his hands out of the cookie jar is because he died.

He was also LAPD Traffic Division and later the Public Information Unit as the Chief of Police's speechwriter, though he'd left the LAPD before SWAT was formed (a unit that the MACOs seem to be somewhat modelled on).

I believe @Yanks was referring to TNG from about season 3 onward. There is a marked difference, as Roddenberry didn't have the same level of involvement as in S1 and S2.

Well that wasn’t many years before he died maybe he knew he didn’t have much time left and retired. I don’t know just a thought but yeah i can see the difference real clearly people started respecting TNG more
