Do you have nicknames for your 'puters?

I was going to say no, but then I remembered one of my computers does have a network name: sputnik. So I guess that will have to be my answer :p

my PC is named Cortana. it was previously called Netrisca, but after it had to be wiped and a new video card installed, I renamed it.

my old PC was called Cerebro.

is anyone detecting a theme here?

No. A computer under my ownership does not have a name. But in death, the computers do have a name.

My first laptop's name is Laptop One.

:borg:

On the other hand, my pen drives have names. One pen drive I have used frequently is called "ALARM_CLOCK" as it has a built-in alarm clock. The one I use right now, which is the smallest in physical size but largest in memory capacity, is called "IKKLEDISK". :adore:

When I was a teen my family's Granny Smith green iMac was named Gus. I just call my computer "baby" and stroke it affectionately.

My computers so far have been:

Cicero (HP desktop) (I adopted my username from the computer)
_______'s Laptop (Dell Inspiron laptop)
Archimedes (Dell XPS desktop)
Excelsior (MacBook Pro laptop)

As an aside, my wifi network is called "TheEther", largely so I can make jokes to myself when it goes down for some reason.

All mine have been named. (I do that with everything.) My first one was named Lenny, because it was big and slow. The next two were just named "Evil Box". My now dead laptop was "TaWanda". My latest desktop, which I use for my design business, is called "Monkey Brain". My computer at the hotel, my second job, is called Bitchy McBitcherson because it is such a contrary pain in the ass.

Most of my computers have names...
PowerBook G3- Milnor
PowerBook G3- Maric
PowerBook G3- Bott
PowerBook G3- Morse
PowerBook 3400c- Thurston
PowerBook Duo 2300c- Phillips
Power Mac G4- Escher
Power Mac G3- Whitehead
Power Mac 8600- Riemann
Power Mac 8600- Whitney
Power Mac 7500- Ricci
Power Mac 8100- Fermi
Quadra 950- HAL 9500
Quadra 700- Bonnet
SGI Indy- Gauss
SGI IRIS Indigo- Euler
SGI Indigo 2 IMPACT- Abel
Sun SPARCstation 10- Kuiper
Sun SPARCclassic- Archie
IBM ThinkPad- Feynman
I follow a similar naming convention to what we used at the Geometry Center while I was there (naming the systems after mathematicians).

I named mine "Get Your Own" because I used to notice the people across the street setting their laptop on the wall of their pool area for hours at a time. I figured that they were using my internet connection so I secured it. Now I don't notice them out there anymore.

Ours is called "This far, no further!" :D

Now I wish that I'd thought of that.

No I don't.

I do name them after starships from sci-fi (Defiant, Serenity, Galactica) though... it's much easier to do "ping galactica" then "ping 192.168.1.102). )

one desktop called 'Bert' from sesame street

2nd desk top which my other half uses she's called it 'U bast'

1st lap top called 'M-5' from the tos episode as it seems to do what it wants sometimes

2nd lap top been named 'Arthur' as it seems to take half an hour to do anything sometimes (might need cleaning)

oh and a eepc called 'U c***' as it's never really worked properly since we got it from a family friend

Yes. My Dell, now about seven years of age (and thus a lady of respectable age for computers) I named "Kiyone" when I got it. After the last major reinstall to make her work a bit bit more I renamed her "Kiyone Redux".
I just call my computer "baby" and stroke it affectionately.
I do that with my car at times. It's because I can't figure out a good name for it, but it is a she. Or in the words of House "Well it sure as hell ain't a dude!"
