Do you hate when you're cleaning out closets...

finding two of things that you were never able to find when you needed them?

Hubby has work gloves still in the original packaging ... in this closet ... and in this closet ... and in this closet. He could never find them when he needed them because he never wanted to organize our stuff. Mr. Control-Freak!

I'm doing a clean-up and keep running across this kind of thing. Gloves, respirators, drop cloths, etc.

Somebody please tell me we're not the only ones with mulitples!

Good lord, no. I'm an expert at losing tape measures. I'm a needlecrafter and I must have more than a dozen of the little buggers lying around the house, but I can never find one when I need one (because putting new ones in the sewing basket or craft cupboard would be, y'know, logical. Can't have that). So I'm forever buying new ones, and losing them again. 1000 years from now some xenoarchaeology students are going to be digging where my house once stood and wonder about the cultural and religious significance of those hundreds of little plastic rolls with the numbers on them that they keep finding. Hopefully they won't figure out that I'm simply a messy airhead. ;)

You have have inadvertently caused the 3012 A.D. end times fiasco.

I found some DVDs I thought I lost, and I JUST bought replacements for them last week.

No your not.

I have found things too that l have not worn and l have bought a long while ago.
But it is good to get rid of old stuff tooo so you can stay in fashion.

I've done this several times with books. When I find I have an extra, I just drop it in the library return slot.

Gods I so need to do this myself. Just to get all the books, CDs and DVDs organized is a major task...they breed at night you know, no wy I bought all of those.

Actually, I didn't even have to read your entire post to agree. I hate it when I'm cleaning out closets.

I'm convinced that if you're even remotely disorganized or just have a lot of stuff, something specific you're looking for vanishes into a parallel dimension at the exact moment you need it. It doesn't matter if you saw it last week or even yesterday, because when you go to that place where you think you saw it, it's no longer there.

It reappears later (usually exactly where you thought it should have been) while you're looking for something else...

Yes. I bought a new house, and I'm in the process of packing stuff up at the old place. Stuff I lost years ago is suddenly showing up all over the place.

I found about 30 floppy disks when I was cleaning up my home office, and I had no way to check them out and see what was on them, so I spent an hour or so busting the little plastic cases and pulling out the disc, cutting them off the metal thing and shredding them.

I just got through browsing the thread in Science about us living inside a blackhole, and now you post this, and now I'm getting chills up my spine...

Alphabetical order. Too many crossovers to organize them any other way for me. With a few exceptions, like Hubby's Japanese samurai dvd collection.

When I was packing for our move, I'd ask Hubby what this piece of paper was for. "Scrap paper for noting things on." Oh, so when he needed to jot something down, he was going to find a piece of paper at the bottom of a box in a closet that had two other boxes on top of it? Aargh!

That's why I kept an external disk drive (with USB connector). Just in case. Geez! I sound totally paranoid.

You didn't even make a floppy Enterprise?

This is why one of the rules of saving money/living frugally is to get organized. You avoid wasting money buying duplicates of stuff.
