I'm gonna echo this sentiment as well. I often plan other events in my day around the times I intend to have my meals.
Also, if I go a few hours without eating... I will get hungry, and I can't really ignore my hunger.
But why would you do that? If you're feeling hungry, it's because your body needs food. Hunger doesn't happen arbitrarily.Believe it or not, if you actually DO ignore it for about 30 minutes, it goes away.

Your body goes into a starvation mode if it goes too long without food. It prepares for the long haul by slowing down your metabolism. The downside is that you'll stop burning fat calories (your body stores them for later, assuming it won't be getting nutrients from food) and you'll start burning muscle instead.^

Well, muscles require a lot of nutrients to maintain themselves. They cannot exist without food. Fat, on the other hand, doesn't really require extra nutrients once it's been formed.
Because muscle can be broken down more readily for immediate energy needs. Eventually you will start to burn your excess fat, but muscle is easier in the short term.
Nobody ever said evolution was perfect. This is simply the way it works.
