I think it's a soft reboot, and I don't mind. It feels very fresh to me, and with 700+ hours of Star Trek before it, that's no mean feat. Not every choice has worked, but the people behind Discovery are doing their damnedest to make Star Trek that isn't mistakable for a rerun (and I think that may be a little jarring to some folks after years of fan films applying great toil and passion toward the ideal of being mistakable for a rerun).

While I'm sure they'll use time travel or something to undo it...
Odd that nobody ever mentioned that time the Klingon Empire won the war and conquered the United Federation of Planets:guffaw:

    Well..
They have not won, but are winning and have only taken 20% of the Fedration. TIS also said Vulcan had in fact been conquered. Just not when or by who.

    Pretty sure Saru said
"The Klingons have won the war" and the tactical map was entirely red with no federation blips anywhere.
But I wouldn't put it past them to ignore it for the next episode.

I think it's supposed to be something like this. While the map on screen if it correlated 1:1 with this map would only have about to the Celes/Nausicaa being invaded. I went back to the map in the older episode they used and as people pointed out at the time, while it's pretty much this map, it's been changed a little bit and weirdly compressed.

It's not a good winter on Risa this year. I also wonder if Apollo is peeved that Klingons have claimed his homeworld.

That was gut reaction. The 20% and lose of 1/3rd thr fleet comes from the preview of the next one from the admiral

Looks like a partial reboot but that not its main problem.

At this point there's two ways it can go:
either the ship or someone from it goes back in time and most of the season is reset
    or
they continue with a new timeline and the show is basically no longer a prequel to prime tos.. (basically a reboot)

Be fair, they make Coffee too. ;)

But, in all seriousness you DO realize:
    1) BOTH Nichelle Nichols and Grace Lee Whitney campaigned to get those mini-skirt uniforms on the show.
    2) Said uniforms were NOT in use/shown during TOS - "The Cage" (the women all wore pants.)

I'm guessing the Starfleet icon on the viewscreen map is supposed to be Earth and Starfleet Headquarters. If this map is accurate it appears the Klingons of 2257 have achieved what the Dominion of 2375 couldn't: invade and occupy almost all of Federation space up to the borders of Sector 001. Impressive. We know it'll get erased from history by a reset button but for a moment it's fascinating to see how far the Klingon Empire got before it was stopped.

This was likely the sector fleet base we saw earlier. And as time travel is involved, it may NOT be erased.
