I've been away from the boards for a while, so I apologize if this ground has already been covered. Since you've probably already gotten what the topic is from the poll, let me just cover it in brief. Basically, in talking about the movie with people I know (in real life), it seems that the vast majority of people who enjoyed the movie either preferred TNG over TOS, or hadn't followed any version of Star Trek at all. Now, I don't know many "traditionalists" who still prefer the original, so I thought it would be interesting to see whether the majority of TOS fans did or did not like the movie.

TOS is my favorite; it's something I've invested in for 43 years, and I loved Star Trek XI.

Although i love TNG, TOS is what runs through my veins ....

Nicely put. This describes me, as well.

And again, ditto. Okay, more like 40 years on my part.

But, I guess I'm going to be the first dissenter here: I hated the new movie. Not looking to start a fight (there have been more than enough of those on this topic already.) Just answering the question posed.

Though, I will say - to the OP's point - that I think my dislike of the new movie has little to do with my affection for TOS, per se. I just didn't think it was a good movie. But, to each his/her own.

I was raised on TNG and it is the most familiar star trek to me. I like XI and had been pretty apathetic towards TOS until I saw this movie. I had seen all the TOS episodes several times but was never really interested in them until this movie came out.

I hold TOS,TNG and DS9 in roughly equal regard, although if pressed I may give the edge to DS9

I loved the movie.

Yeah, my dislike of the movie isn't really related to my love for TOS either. I was very very excited to hear that there was going to be a TOS reboot and was looking forward to the film, so the idea of a reboot was not what bothered me. I just did not find the movie any good.

Edit: I love TOS, somewhat like TNG and did not watch much DS9, VOY or ENT.

I'm a TOS fan (with a little bit I like from the other series)...

I did love the movie despite its flaws...

Likewise, I did not have a problem with the idea of a reboot, and I actually liked most of the casting.

Also, looking at your AV, I can't help confessing that I'm such a huge Trek Geek that I can remember sitting in the theater the first time I saw TWOK and absolutely falling head over heels for Saavik/Kirsty Alley ... and I'm gay!

I know that's not apropos of this thread, but it just came to mind. ;)

I guess Robin Curtis did not affect you the same way?

I've been a TOS fan for the better part of 30 years. I enjoyed the movie as what it was. A generic sci-fi action movie that happened to be called "Star Trek". As a Star Trek movie, I hated it. It didn't feel like Star Trek to me. And it certainly didn't feel like TOS. And that's just my opinion.

Robin Curtis is the reason I'm gay.

[Larry the Cable Guy]I'm sorry for that right there, Lord[/Larry the Cable Guy] :p

*EDIT* p.s. - for the record, I meant no harm to Robin Curtis at all; I just went for the obvious laugh line. In case she lurks on TBBS. ;)
