Do the mothers on this show get on your nerves?

Jackie was a whiney, useless layabout. From the very beginning, talking about how her daughter could collect compensation, right through the end. She didn't care about her daughter traveling with the Doctor. She cared that she wasn't getting paid for it. That's all she ever wanted, money.

Yeah, that's right, all she ever cared about was money. That's why she went and risked her life by traveling to a Dalek-conquered world to try to save the Earth and rescue Rose. Did you just completely miss the point of her speech in "Love & Monsters?"

Agreed, there is probably some truth to the comments when we first meet Jackie, but much like most people touched by the Doctor's influence she did change and grow. Even by the end of S1 she'd changed, why else would she get the tow truck to help Rose break into the TARDIS.

Was she bothered about money, well probably yes--she did amusing tell Pete she wasn't bothered about him being rich, then 2 seconds later asked how rich, but clearly she'd rather be with a rich Pete that a rich anyone else and that's good enough for me.

Love and Monsters really showed how difficult it was to be Jackie. Of all the mums Jackie is the one who had the most reason to be pissed off at the Doctor because Rose dissapeared for a year.
