I agree- it's an impressive model & design. (Here's a good ventral view.) Markus Nee's site has some other good designs--I also like his Matson class (though not as graceful).
So what would you say distinguishes good design from a kitbash? (Can it be both?) Interchangeable parts have been part of Trek ship designs since the 1975 tech manual, not to mention the Reliant in 1982. To use an engineer's term, perhaps it depends on how well the parts are 'integrated', which for a star fleet ship usually means a well-designed secondary hull to connect the parts. And the details can make all the difference. (The 2nd posted design has plenty of that--they're just not 'integrated' )
