Do people still believe in Hell?

Why is not believing seen as rejection? Let's say your religion is the one true religion. At best this means most people are just making a mistake in not believing it is true? God has no room in his heart for people who make mistakes?
Also If Satan is tricking people into following different paths then it's even worst because they aren't just making a mistake they are basically becoming victims of a scam? I would think that a real God would understand this stuff about humans and at least get their side of story before just shoveling them off to Hell because they didn't somehow get special insight needed to always make the right choices in their spirtual beliefs.

If there are no serious consequences for a lack of belief, then what's the point in believing?

When it comes to a God there is no point in believing or not believing. Whether we believe or not doesn't change the fact of his existence or lack of existence. We can't change the truth, all we can do is make a guess on what that the truth is. Why should people suffer for making the wrong guess?

Because God said so.

Could it be that God is wrong and might not be a nice person if he thinks it's okay to allow people to go to Hell?

Jason

God can't be "wrong." God is God. If God decides you're going to hell because you're a rotten sinner, well, what are you gonna do about it?

Nothing I can do, but at least I can know I was right and God was wrong. This won't help when Satan's staff sets me on eternal fire but at least the truth would exist in some abstract kind of way.

Being right is probably a cold comfort in the face of eternal torment.

Unless you're Gnostic and believe that the being that everyone refers to as "God" is really an evil Demiurge.

In which case, I'm a Misotheist.

Nah, if I thought God existed, THEN I'd be a misotheist, but the idea is silly on its face, so I'm not.

Meh, Narnia is shite for other reasons. Mainly for being Christian propaganda of the worst kind.

Yeah no kidding. I tore through the Narnia books when I was 9-10 years old after that Bill Melendez cartoon was on TV. And when I got to the last book it got so heavy-handed, even at that age I could tell it was religious propaganda, and I really resented it.

I grew up in a very religious community and there was a lot of talk of Satan. Like, he was actually around causing trouble, appearing in people's basements and menacing kids on their way home from school and that sort of thing. And this was mostly kids talking, because I was a kid and that's who I talked to, but I heard similar things from adults. He wasn't red with horns or anything, he was just described as a guy with dark hair and dark clothes, maybe with red eyes. Anything to do with Satan or the occult was talked about like ghost stories, gave you the chills. And the way that "Ouija Boards" were talked about, it was as if playing with one would be like saying "Please possess me, Satan or any available demon!" I would rather have gotten close to nuclear waste. Then I saw one in a department store, and it was just a Parker Brothers game in a kind of corny cardboard box on the shelves along with Monopoly and Life and Sorry! And I thought "That's it?! That's what I was scared of?!" I thought that was pretty funny.

My 4 year old nephew is panicking over the idea of Satan. He's convinced that the devil is going to make him do bad things. His parents and my mom find it adorable. I'm a bit weirded out because it's practically child abuse in my eyes.

Yeah the Last Battle was very heavy and odd.. I remember it gave me a metallic taste in my mouth when I read it as a kid. My favorite was The Horse and His Boy and The Dawn Treader.. probably read the Dawn Treader 30 times LOL. Prince Caspian I thought quite dull.

A horse and his boy is my favorite one, hands down. Can't wait for that movie.

And, yes, I still believe in hell.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader is one of my favorites, though The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is still my favorite installment.

I particularly loved The Last Battle and anyone who doesn't like the Narnia books-is heartless, evil, without scruple, and/or needs their tongue removed.
