Do Other Science Fiction Franchises Exist Within the Trek Universe?

Re: Do Other Science Fiction Franchises Exist Within the Trek Universe

Anyone ever read the anthology book "Alternate Kennedy's"?

I think it is David Gerrold that has a short story about John F. Kennedy deciding to go into acting instead of politics and in the late 1960s in Hollywood, he agrees to do a science fiction series called "Star Track" where he is the captain of a starship teamed with his alien first officer named "Rom" (played by Donald Pleasance).
.

That was a fun story.

Full disclosure: I wrote the cover blurb for that book:

"Ask not who the Kennedys were. Ask who they might have have been."

I'm still proud of that one! :)

I once outlined a book idea called "Alternate Bush's".

Subject matter being obvious. Like what if George W. Bush's Air National Guard unit was sent to Vietnam where he is shot down and becomes a POW alongside John McCain......

Or what if during the Iran hostage crisis, Ross Perot seeks the help of former CIA Director George H.W. Bush to sneak two of his employees out of Iran (similar events happened in real life)

Re: Do Other Science Fiction Franchises Exist Within the Trek Universe

I know this is a couple of weeks old but something I came across ties in with it.

In the high regarded John Ford novel "The Final Reflection" there is a discussion between the main Klingon character and the Federation ambassador Dr. Emmanual Tagore.

Tagore makes a reference to a fictional "war that lasted 1,000 years". He immediately dismisses it but the Klingon is fascinated by the concept thinking "a 1,000 year war! Line of battle commanded by family lines........" or something to that effect.

At the time I could not help but think of the "Thousand Year (yahren) War" from the original Battlestar: Galactica.

I thought of the thousand year war that led to the creation of the Daleks...

The reference is on p. 136-7 of the book, and Tagore says the thousand-year war was depicted in a novel. From the description, I suspect he's referring to The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.

Not to mention that we do have Flash Gordon, haven't we? ;)
