Django Unchained--Tarintino's new project

^ That's why I was so intrigued with wanting Smith to accept the role. I think it would have defied his current screen image and once again proven to his fanbase and critiques that he can do drama. Foxx will do a good job with this though I think. I'm very pleased with the casting overall so far.
 
Another cast addition: Kevin Costner:
He's the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes. The club and ranch are owned by Calvin Candie (DiCaprio) and Ace Woody is the one who pits the "mandingo" fighters against one another, and has little qualms about mistreating and even killing the slaves who don't measure up.

Bit of a change of pace for him.
 
Wow. This film has really interesting casting. Costner is changing things up a bit which is only a good thing for him.
 
^ Agreed. And Costner actually makes a pretty good villain. One of his best roles was in Clint Eastwood's A Perfect World - admittedly, he was kind of a villain with a heart of gold but it showed he can step outside his heroic box. And he got good reviews for Mr Brooks (which I haven't seen).

Could this part do for him what Pulp Fiction did for Travolta? Here's hoping!
 
^ I was thinking the same thing. Between this and "Man of Steel" there is gonna be reason enough to be a Kevin Costner fan.
 
^ These have been two very shrewd decisions on his part. Play a nice guy father figure that's perfectly moulded to his nice-guy image, a variation on his Field of Dreams role. In a major blockbuster, to boot. And then play an absolute bastard for a director known for getting the best out of actors, particularly when cast against type. A great double whammy.

How about Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction or Robert DeNiro in Jackie Brown?
 
^ Willis was on his uppers when PF was made, having had a few flops in a row. He needed it more than it needed him (his role was originally written for Matt Dillon). And DeNiro is a big name actor but not a box office superstar in the way that Smith is.
 
More casting-

Jamie Foxx is Django (joining Christoph Waltz as Dr Schultz)
Leonardo DiCaprio is Calvin Candie, the main villain
Samuel L Jackson is Stephen, his main "house nigger" (don't look at me, that's what they're called in the dialogue) and right hand man

- that works! It was an SLJ kind of part... Foxx should work, DiCaprio will make an interesting CC, but it's Christoph Waltz and Dr Schultz that I'm already way hyped up about - it's a fantastic Lee Van Cleef type role and he'll be cool in it.
 
Quentin will probably get somebody like Jeff Fahey to replace him. Or better yet, Michael Parks. He was excellent in Red State.
 
^ I was thinking that Dennis Quaid would be a good Costner-sub. But yes, Quentin might go down the line of a lesser-known actor.

Me, too. There are few actors that interest me as much as Idris Elba does now. I would pay to watch him read the phone book.

Elba's great, and I'd love to see him in a QT movie, even this one, but he's just not the right casting for that part - he looks too old, end of. He could pull off SLJ's role, though.
 
Interested to see Jackson back with Tarantino (in a major role, I mean). Tarantino pretty much created the screen persona that Jackson has thoroughly driven into the ground over the last two decades, so maybe Quentin can get something new out of him.
