Disgruntled Janeway fans: try a carrot

I'd just like to take this opportunity to mention that TrekBBS does have an ignore function, by which a user, once deciding that another user is never, ever going to say anything of any interest or wit, may add that person's name to a list, and never see that person's posts again. It's quite a lovely feature. :techman:

It's also considered pretty pathetic to use it. ;)
*shrug* So, call me pathetic. I just like my wheat without so much chaff in it.

(And if missed the intended meaning of the winking smilie, feel free to ignore this post.)

Good one!! TNZ...

Off topic- whats a strawman? Is it supposed to be flimsy or...? I'm not familiar with that expression.

Is this the same TNZ that thinks this place is too scary? :vulcan:
Well, we kicked Dayton3 out and y'all didn't, so....

A strawman is when one person misrepresents their opponent's view into something that superficially resembles it, but is much easier to refute. It deflects the arguer from refuting their opponent's actual argument.

Oh thats what that is I always wondered what they were talking about when they used that.

I like Chakotay. (I don't like so much what the writers did - or didn't do, really - with his character, but I did like him.)

You wanna make something of it? ;)

I certainly don't. I completely agree with you and I thought he was hot!

That, too. Naturally. It wouldn't have been enough to salvage a hopeless character, but as it was...Hey, may as well enjoy the view, right?

Yeah. But I really was disappointed with his character. I stated in another post that I thought his character had so much potential in Caretaker. I couldn't wait to see what the writers had in store for him, but I was very disappointed. I didn't hate him but I really thought he could have been so much more.

Why would it be considered pathetic? Because a life lived without exposure to tiresome jerks and single issue write-only trolls is not worth living?

I've got a dozen names in my ignore list, and it makes me happy every time certain people pop up in a discussion and all I see is "This message is hidden because User Name Here is on your ignore list." I also expect I'm on some people's ignore lists, and that's fine.

I've been tempted, I really have to put some people on ignore, and even entire threads as seeing an unread thread which is all red just makes me want to click regardless of the subject! :alienblush:

I am not disappointed with his character - I am disappointed that it was ridiculously underused. By that, I mean that what we were shown was pretty interesting, but we weren't shown nearly enough and it wasn't used to the advantage of the character or the show. Why set up this potentially interesting person and then use him mostly to say "Shields up!" It's just silly. And wasteful.

I haven't used the ignore feature here, but I have on other boards. Because life's too short, you know? If I know that someone who invariably irritates me or even infuriates will consistently post in threads I am interested in...well, yeah, why not use "ignore"?

I haven't had to use it here because for one thing, I haven't been here long enough, and for another, there are so many threads going that I haven't had much chance to get consistently irritated. So I'm thinking, based on my experience thus far, that rather than ignore individuals, I can just ignore threads. But I wouldn't blame anybody for using "ignore." Because life's too short.

Nah, those are the people who actually use the ignore function. ;)

Honestly, I've never really figured that out. I guess, it's out of a sentiment that you should man up and endure it. I don't really need it since I'm able to ignore stupid or irritating posts without the help of board software. But I agree that it can be useful.
