^ Hat Full of Sky was what I didn't like. Wintersmith is actually a lot better in my opinion, I'd give that one a go.

That's a matter of opinion. Personally, being someone who grew up around the army (in Wiltshire, no less) I found a lot there to laugh at, especially with the Sergeant/Rupert interactions.
Oh and you have to love a coffee starved vampire having "flashsides" to 'Nam.
Pratchett thinks Wintersmith is the best book he has written .

^Agreed. The Guards series represents the best character progression of the individual series, in my opinion. One of the nice things that Pratchett does, though, is leave each book in any particular series with a neat wrap-up. No dangling plot threads. I've always felt that, at the end of a series book, if he never revisited those characters again, then I would still be satisfied with how things turned out for them.

I have Unseen Academicals pre-ordered, but I'm not sure whether I should read it right away. I've been reading the books in order so far, and mean to continue, but that's a hell of a long way to go till I get to Unseen Academicals.

I finished Mort while I was in hospital, and have bought Sourcery. The one I found I had most difficulty with was Colour of Magic, and Hogfather (which was the first I read). I think at first the no chapters thing threw me, and Colour of Magic just didn't particularly grab me. But I've enjoyed the rest, Mort in particular.
Well so far I've been able to get them all from Amazon easy enough, although not all of them have been the same covers but I'm not OCD so that doesn't bother me.
I'm knee deep in books I need to read at the minute so I've been in no rush to pick up more, but I guess I should pick up a few to have ready in case I go on a Discworld binge.
Cool. The first one I read was Men At Arms, after reading the first 20 pages of Mort in a giveaway sampler.

As for Unseen Academicals, if you didn't want to read the excerpt, you should just read the footnote on page one. Classic DW footnote.

^ The footnote instantly reminded me of one of my favourite lines of the whole series. I forget which book, but it's about how Ankh-Morpork is a democracy - one man, one vote. Lord Vetinari is the man, and he's got the vote.
I hope Vetinari has a good amount of exposure in UA. It's a tie between him and Vimes for my favourite character. Wouldn't surprise me to see Carrot playing football in this either seems like something he'd do.

Except for the characters in MR, they're all my favourites, but first among equals are Vimes and Granny Weatherwax. He's tough, and she's incredibly deep.
