Discovery Size Argument™ thread

Sorry, did not read the whole thread. Where did they get the size from? I recall a lot of guess work, but I did not see anywhere that was quoted.

Eaglemoss released the sizes, and they get their info right from CBS and the Production teams.

750.5 meters for the Crossfield, and 423 meters for the Walker.

Ah thank you, I was hunting though the thread, but 17 pages ( most of which are arguments) was a lot of digging. So they are rescaling? I can see that, trek scale has always been messed up.

Well, Discovery's inner saucer it nearly the exact same size as the TOS Connie's saucer, if you go by the 289 meter figure.

Based on that, I think they are rescaling. They keep making a big deal out of the Connie being a heavy cruiser, I think they are not gonna make her small. This is honestly gonna upset some folks, but mostly the same folks already upset over the look anyhow.

Discovery is primarily a science ship, her being bigger then the Connie doesn't make her the better ship, or better then a cruiser.

This is a fair point, but the Walker class was a frigate or destroyer and she is almost as large. Once more, this is all guess work until we see the connie redesign and see the size. I really would love to see the other ship sizes as well.

Same here, based on the size of that window on the Sarcophagus Ship's bridge, it is going to be huge.

I mean, I'm assuming this is the bridge, it's the only window that seems to match the set's

Kinda feel like JJ Abrams might have taken the TOS writer's guide a little bit more seriously than some of his predecessors...

In fact, it would be interesting if Discovery is about to make this entire discussion pointless. The Kelvinverse connie IS the largest ship in the fleet by a comfortable margin, and the Discovery version is likely to be as well. All is as it should be.
We need to see the size of the Defiant and ideally Enterprise to really be sure.

Although I have to say the Europa looked a fair size even though it was all saucer.

Official sizes would be nice to have as I doubt a 20 year old ship would be the largest in the fleet, if the Discovery is larger I expect others to be as well.

On the whole, size measurements are fine until they are contradicted by onscreen evidence to the contrary (Voyager Shuttlebay, I'm looking at you!)

Burnham says something like "That ship's bridge is larger than most of our ships." Which could be interpretted as "their bridge is larger than our bridge" but I initially took it as "We have STARSHIPS smaller than their bridge module." Both would be equally true, IMO.

The thing with the crew complement is that Kirk's Enterprise is the outlier at 430, which seems absurdly over-populated compared with the 80-something on the NX-01 and the thousand on Picard's ship. The Pike crew of 200 fits better with DIS and ENT.

The routine operation of the Enterprise was obviously very labour intensive. All those guys crowding the hallways had to be doing something, right?
