Discovery Showrunners fired; Kurtzman takes over

The problem with this is that in Encounter at Farpoint and some other early episodes, the crew was superduperIMPRESSED with the holodeck. They thought it was the most amazing thing, like they'd never seen one before.

If holodecks were such old hat even during pre-TOS, the TNG crew wouldn't have had that reaction over 80 years later.
That's called inconsistent writing. TNG wanted it to be treated as "amazing" so they ignored anything from TOS/TAS that contradicted that.

I'm extremely skeptical of the claim that in the end Lucas wanted all stormtroopers to be clones. Now, I wouldn't doubt that at different points in the process over the years he might have had that notion, especially early on in the 1970s. But as for what he wanted to represent going forward in the 21st century, it's an extraordinary claim, that would rate the need for extraordinary evidence, given how the OT-era show Rebels so liberally contradicts it. He changed Boba's voice in TESB. Why wouldn't he rerecord all the stormtrooper lines in the OT? It's really a far-fetched claim.
I'm skeptical too. I just know the lore.

If holodecks were such old hat even during pre-TOS, the TNG crew wouldn't have had that reaction over 80 years later.
Both ENT and TAS created that problem first.

Last weekend some friends and I did Discord video during E3. One of the things we talked about is the future of VR integration in MMOs.

Not having more advanced video conferencing and holographic simulators in Disco would be anachronistic.

Much like how, despite @Greg Cox best efforts, it's probably best to ignore the 1990s Eugenics Wars in the future.

Easy explication, the holodecks in TNG were more advanced, more real then those.
That is why they’re impressed with them.
Somehow all holotechnology seems to have bypassed Betazed, as Lwaxana had no idea that the holographic characters weren't real people.

Since Betazed is presumably one of the advanced Federation members, how could their ambassador be so clueless about a technology that everyone else knows about?

I realize that the early episode writers' intention was to make the viewing audience have a "GOSHWOW!" reaction to the holodeck by making the main cast have a "GOSHWOW!" reaction, but there were some things that just weren't thought through carefully enough.

That's not new in this franchise.

Who cares what Lwaxana Troi thought about anything.

Maybe she had a traumatic experience in a holodeck and supressed all memories of holodecks

Roddenberry did it in "The Cage" with his line basically saying "GOSHWOW, a woman on the bridge!" That was something that Pike never would have said in-universe, at least in any conception of Prime Universe continuity that is generally accepted today.

In fairness, that line was excised from "The Menagerie."

The diversity was an improvement in Voyager. You also have to somewhat appreciate the significance of the role a player is involved in. That is who is 'Captain', 'First Officer', 'Second Officer', 'Chief Engineer' Bridge crew etc.

Yea, but your reasoning should come with a caveat. Are they qualified for the job, or just hired based on race, sex, and sexual preference status? If the latter, then that's not reason enough, and the art can suffer because of a lack of a qualified individual, when you choose arbitrarily superficial reasons to hire someone, don't expect that to necessarily translate into professional performance, just because of representation quotas. As Martin Luther king Jr once said, we should be judged on the content of our character, not race, sex, or orientation. To do so, however noble or convoluted the reasoning, is simply racist and sexist. The irony with ignorant people focusing on such things in their hiring practices is mind boggling, and equally so that such a focus ignores the blatant bias such casting and hiring promotes.
If you watch the 'extras' in Voyagers DVD/Blu Ray it's interesting. They wanted a female captain but auditioned men too. Infer what you can from that. It's like in my opinion they would choose the gender to fit the role of 'female captain' BUT if a guy blew them out of the water, he might have won the day.

I took it as Lwaxana being too self-absorbed to slow down and notice where she was. It wasn't until later in the run of the show that they gave her more personality than "Me, me, more me now."

That is so not the point. While Majel Barrett played her as a buffoon in the early episodes, the truth is (as we were shown in later episodes) that her over-the-top behavior was a mask for an introspective woman who had some very troubling issues in her past.

It's like how some RL comedians who can make the world laugh are in reality suffering from some pretty bleak issues like depression (a prime example is Robin Williams).

Lwaxana Troi was not a stupid woman. Her position in Betazed society is an aristocratic one, and she's well-traveled in her role as a diplomat. Considering that she would have traveled on lots of starships before, how could she not have known about holodecks?

Eye roll right back at you. I was kidding. Don't take comments from random people on the internet about fictional characters so seriously.

The specifically stated goal in the article was to bring in more representation. If they're hiring more whites, it's not bringing in more representation.
I personally think that there is a reverse discrimination agenda being pushed in several walks of life and companies. It absolutely perpetuates hiring with a priority on the profile of the employee (as past practices have done). When men were favoured it often was just so readily accepted as part of the landscape that it became role identity. It's happening now but in reverse to balance that landscape. Same behaviour but for good ;) Balance at least. Maybe one day things will not be about gender, race and age. Won't happen in any of our life times I suspect.
