Discovery saucer ring spins?

I think the biggest example was the Court Martial scene in the dark with the spotlight over Michael.
For me it is the worst scene I have ever watched in anything Star Trek. It even beats VOY salamanders.
It shows the shallowness of the show in all its glory.

This is one of the most overblown and innane statements I have read yet about DSC, and Star Trek in general.

And that is saying a LOT.

I just remembered something Robert Wise said pointing out how the scene where the tinted glass door in Kirk's quarters closing in front of him was the only remotely impressionistic shot of the film. I thought it was a bit of a shame when I read it, that Star Trek (or, at least, Federation settings) always had to look so literal post-TOS. And even in the sixties, it was just soft focus on women's close-ups and spotlights on Kirk's eyes.

I think that it looked ridiculous and I don't like it. Everything about the spinning, the spore stuff, is taking away from the "real" feeling of the universe this show takes place in. To me, it was a science fiction version of 18th century navies. While star trek had magic crystals to make things go... that ship actually had to get to its destination, the ship would have to stay in orbit, while the crew made due with shuttles or small scale transporters. JJ Abrams trek tried to use lazy limitless teleporters, now this show is trying to do something similar.

Just my thoughts.

Trek has always pushed the boundaries of what is scientifically possible, but also what is remotely believable. In rewatching TOS, I am struck by how much was handwaved. How many stories were based on uber-powerful godlike aliens just torturing the crew until they found a way to defeat the peril.

This new DASH drive isn't even the first attempt in the franchise to deal with over-powered transport capabilities. We've had the transwarp drive, fluidic space, The Traveller, you name it. What is wrong or too far fetched with exploring this tech? Heck you can't get more stupidly far-fetched than the Q-Continuum that can traverse vast distances or change reality with a snap of their fingers.

It's also sort of fun to see our heroes awed by the tech at their disposal. For Kirk, his warp drive and transporters were humdrum. And everybody had them, and many had better stuff. Here our heroes dream of being better than the competition, perhaps of joining the Big Boys League even.

It will be interesting to see their dreams come crashing down...

This tech is just amazingly stupid and ignores Trek science because, obviously, when the saucer spins the sombrero would fall off!

So you believe that Federation Court-Martial as dark rooms where the accused cannot see the judges and spotlights create a kafkaesque mood of doom is more possible than Paris and Janeway turning into salamanders?

Yes sir. I thought I had made that clear.

I can only assume this is supposed to be a joke. Because anyone who would honestly suggest that Threshold is more believable than a brief scene of overly dramatic lighting would have to be one asteroid shy of a belt.

Perspective, depends on the perspective.
"overly dramatic lighting" in courtrooms has nothing to do with Federation reality. Same as Voyager's salamanders.
It's up to you which of two, insults your intelligence more.
For me is the cliche idiotic dramatic lighting.

only the deck roof spins. you can see the lights below it that is part of the hull, and they don't spin.
