Discovery saucer ring spins?

I've seen where some people wondered if the main saucer ring on Discovery might spin. In the engine room when Burnham comes up to Stamets (right after the "lurker" line,) there's a graphic displayed that appears to show the saucer turning slowly. I took a screenshot of it, the time stamp to see the spinning starts at about 21:36.

^ Never mind. I see where someone already posted the same thing. One problem with episode threads is they grow so large different issues are buried in the thread and things get repeated.

I do not think it spins. I do think they may be contentment measures for all those labs
It spins, watch the episode 4 preview when they pop out by the sun, and if you pause on the first Discovery flyby in episode 3 and the first shot of the Glenn from the dorsal approach you can see in both shots clear gaps for the rings to spin through the neck of the ship.

I do not see a spin here. I see the star in the gaps as the hull moves, but not independent rotation.

Watch the navigational lights position during the shot. It's hard to pick up on at 1x speed due to how few frames are used but at slower speeds you can see the rotation as the port navigational light passes from the rear fourth of the saucer to it's normal half way position and the starboard light does the same from the bow fourth of the saucer.

I am still seeing the whole ship rotate. Looks to be a trick of the light to me. You could be right, but I am simply not seeing rotation.

It's not a biggy lol, if it really does rotate then we'll see in episode 4 and if not then it won't rotate. I suspect this next episode minus having some action and desperation in it's plot will expand a lot more of the Spore Drive and how it works with the ship/these Black Alerts.

Yeah, I am not just seeing it. But I can not say I am not wrong. We will see one way or the other. and frankly I am fine either way . I agree we are gonna get more issue with the drive and some massive "oppsies" as they really should not be playing with that.

It's pretty clear that at least the middle ring was "built" to rotate by the makers of the show. Whether it will eventually be shown rotating is not clear, but I find it rather likely personally. It will hopefully have some sort of a functional purpose, although whether related to the Spore Drive, it's difficult to tell - Burnham should have found it easy to spot the rotating option, yet she hasn't commented on it being unusual or otherwise noteworthy.

Perhaps this is a regular design feature of large science vessels so that the ship can keep instraments pointed at specific points of space better from specific labs.

What's sort of amusing is that the ship's main guns appear to be on the middle ring, in six plus six twin-cannon emplacements (that are glowing red all the time!). Will she go Gatling when fighting, cooling those turrets in the breeze of fresh ether?

They do spin on the terminal in the episode.

We have yet to see the actual saucer of the ship spin though.

If it does that means the ship was built specifically for that experiment.

That's two ships purpose built to house just one experiment, alas we know the experiment fails.

Or then not. After all, as mentioned above, Burnham has now seen the ship in detail and has never commented on the spinning saucer. It could be something she already is familiar with, then, only repurposed here.

Or then not even that, perhaps the spinning is not related to the spores in any fashion. But I suppose that when we finally see the spinning, we also get plenty of dialog to put it in context.

If we need to know about it we will be told I am sure.

Its a bit odd when we know the experiment is in the engineering section and not the saucer section unless its a question of configuration in some way.

We've seen that funny booth next to Engineering. We don't know why it needs to be there and what it does there. Perhaps it isn't particularly relevant to the experiment, and perhaps the engines of the ship aren't, either - it just happens that the most convenient preexisting bay for growing the spores was next to Engineering (that is, next to Shuttlebay which is next to Engineering), so parts of Engineering were coopted for supporting the cultivation part of the experiment.

Perhaps the whole ship is needed for the experiment. Perhaps only the spinning section is. Perhaps nothing about the ship is special, save for the fact that she hosts this experiment. We'll learn in due time...

The rotating ring houses the Cafe-Bar-Restaurant of the ship. You can take your coffee/cocktails/dinner while admiring the slowly revolving star view. It’s very romantic but the prices are very high!

...Amusingly enough, the Cafe/Restaurant/Bar/Mess Hall must be in the rotating ring, because that's the only one with portholes of the right shape and size on the outside.

Supposedly, tonight's episode will show an actual jump across lightyears. Will we also see the midsection spin?
