Right...the fact that there's still a passionate fanbase discussing (arguing / bitching about at times hahaha) the ins-and-outs of the franchise!
Yup, few franchises could keep a fan forum as vibrant for as long.

I just ignore trolls, them posting on Facebook doesn’t give them any credence. I enjoy the show, my friends enjoy the show. Someone who doesn’t and wants to complain that it exists doesn’t affect me. So I don’t care that they’re wasting their time complaining on the Internet about it. I think they should get a life.
Seriously? Who pays any attention to it? The Franchise is way behind the curve on...absolutely everything.
It's culturally relevant to the same extent that Blue Bloods or NCIS or any other CBS fodder
There is a difference between not liking a show and going out of your way to attack people who do like the show.I think it's more a case of what is so frequently driving the criticism....

That's just bigotry.Or disliking the groups and people represented in it
That's just bigotry.
I still would appreciate someone pointing me to a rating or statistic of the audience. I would like to compare how well or not Discovery is doing.This is a totally different international scenario than any previous Trek show though. We are getting it day of US release, on Netflix, without commercials, advertised and available for on demand watching. As far as audiences outside the US are concerned, this is the best we've ever had it. By a long way.
Quite often anyone with a different point of view to the those prominent in the 'landscape' is given a label. It's code for dismissing their views. I'm amazed at how often someone says - 'don't watch then'. That is both redundant and tedious. People watch and then decide whether they like it or not.I think it's a bit silly to generalize any fans who dislike Star Trek Discovery as 'trolling.' If that's the case, just based on the facebook and twitter alone, there's a significant amount of the fanbase 'trolling'.
This is a tricky situation because this show is playing with classic characters and concepts that existing Star Trek fans are already invested in, but handling them in a much different and quite divisive way. Trek fans voicing their criticism online is just as valid as those voicing praise for a show they like online.
I think the criticism will just amp up from here on out if they handle Pike. Spock and the Enterprise the same way they handled STD S1, so buckle up;

That being said, it shouldn't take away your enjoyment of the series for sure. STD definitely speaks to a specific audience and has it's defenders, so there's that.
There aren't any, which was my original point. Netflix don't release figures, as a matter of principle, and as far as i know, CBS All Access aren't either. The only ratings in the traditional sense we have are Canadian, plus some maximum numbers which can be inferred from subscription numbers to streaming services.I still would appreciate someone pointing me to a rating or statistic of the audience. Wowbagger, do you have a take on the "demand expression" foolishness that people get so excited about?
Meh. I can't speak for others but when I critique I'm specific.There are plenty of posters here who are critical of DSC who bring something to discuss to the table. Others, not so much.
There's a difference between someone who wants the show to improve and someone who's just here to trash it. Once it's clear the show isn't for you and probably isn't ever going to be, why force yourself to watch? I stopped watching ENT after six episodes. Then, one week, I binged it almost a decade later. Why can't people dislike DSC (or outright hate it) do the same?
When I'm at work, I'm doing things I sometimes don't want to do. When I'm at home, I have the freedom to do whatever I want (short of breaking the law). Why would I actively want to watch something I can't stand? And why would someone else? Why would anyone else? "Just so I can have an opinion!" You've already formed it. "I want to stay up-to-date!" This isn't the news. It's not real. You don't need to stay up-to-date.

Oh, you think?TD's viewership being lower than Enterprise, it could very well be the core Trek fanbase paying to keep the show afloat.
