News Discovery isn't on TV because no-one would watch it

It's one of two things.

Either CBS doesn't have much faith in Discovery (or Star Trek in general), or more likely…

…it's not the first time a CBS/Paramount suit doesn't know what he's talking about.

Either way…

They claim nobody would watch it, yet they've decided to air the pilot episode on TV.

If there was any truth to this, they wouldn't be using Discovery as the flagship program for All-Access.... or they're idiots.

How many successful cable shows would cut it (with their current audience numbers) on broad cast?

In all honesty, Star Trek Discovery isn't going to get the ratings of The Big Bang Theory or NCIS. That doesn't mean that it won't be a success in the realm of All Access.

All Access was launched in late 2014. :)

There are three original programs being prepared.

Big Brother spinoff.

Good Wife Spinoff

Star Trek Discovery.

:)

Discovery is clearly the runt of the litter.

It's most likely true and they're not idiots! A streaming service has a completely different business model than a broadcast network, things that work on one don't necessarily work on the other.

I'm sure it will make more money streaming, but I'm not sure it will get more viewers. Honestly though, I don't care how they broadcast it as long as they're doing it and it's good.

TV requires that you watch the media at it airs to get max points, and within three days to get partial points, so long as you kinda watch the advertising clumping to the media.

Streaming needs that you watch the show or series at some point eventually, whenevah, or you keep watching repeats, just so long as you keep renewing your subscription, and this media, or which ever media can be seen as a contributing factor to that renewal. Online Advertising, that is attached to the $6 subscription, but is gone from the $10 subscription, is specifically targeted (by data mining and intuitive algorithms) at you the subscriber from what CBS All Access knows about you as a person and a TV watcher.

It may well be a very frank assessment of the current TV climate ... but a very peculiar comment to come from the studio's CEO.

It would be nice if the buzz for Discovery were going in the upwards direction.

Is there any chance if, assuming the show is a hits on CBS All Access, that the show would be on regular CBS? I doubt that it would because they'd be dumb to take a hit away from their fledgling service.

I can imagine them airing it on the network during the summer rerun season. The late start on All Access kinda messes that up, at least for the first year.
