Discovery and "The Orville" Comparisons

I knew ahead that there was going to be harsher language in this show so I assumed they would just use it during a cliched tense and dramatic moment. Instead they totally surprised me with a moment of levity.

I actually liked that it was used to express excitement. I think it would be much more out of place for the characters to start calling other people/aliens "fuckers" or "mother fuckers" or something lame like that.

You don't think one of these episodes written by terentino and starring Sam Jackson would work well eh?

No, but they think "how can we make this more relatable for the average joe from wackedoodle". They have to sell their show, they have to get viewers. So they have to aim for the lowest common denominator while telling their story.

Beyond which, bear in mind that the producers do not have a free hand. CBS executives have had a lot to say about what kind of show they're paying for.

Clearly, you have nothing substantial to say in defense of Discovery. What do you imagine you're accomplishing by trying to change the subject?
Huh? Since when was The Orville not a part of the subject here in this thread? Did you forget the title?

Discovery versus "The Orville"

I'm not changing the subject - that seems to be your go to strategy when you want to avoid a question. :techman:

I already answered your question directly, pointing out the demonstrable fact that your statements about the plot in question were completely in error.

Having disposed of your dodge, there...

The only reason for playing "You're Another!" as you've been doing is that you know there's no reasonable answer to the criticisms people are making regarding Discovery. You've got nothing sensible to say in the show's defense, because you're just wrong on the facts.

But I was curious how you see The Orville's take on what could be considered the same in:
THE ORVILLE - S1, E6: "KRILL" ?

I've watched the first 2 episodes of Orville and all of Discovery. Orville has self-contained episodes and closer to the feel of traditional star trek. But Orville is also too goofy to be Star Trek.

It improves with every episode. I think the show should not have been made as a comedy, but it was the only way FOX would've accepted it.

Or its just what they wanted to tie McFarland to as part of the promo, and then let it carry its own weight.

I saw someone argue that treating the whole thing as a kind of ha-ha lark is McFarlane's take on Roddenberry's old "set it on a distant world and the suits won't notice that you're talking about issues" trick. Cute notion, but I'm not persuaded that it's so. I think he just is fonder of dick jokes than is strictly necessary.
