According to a new poll, there are only three current television shows that both American conservatives and liberals like. Discovery and The Orville are two of them.

Yay for yet another good thing that Discovery and The Orville have in common!

    Very cool.

Despite what people with strong personal leanings would claim...Trek at its very best showed the value of multiple kinds of thinking...in the spirit of TRUE diversity. I never (EVER) saw Trek as a "liberal" or "conservative" leaning franchise on the whole. I saw it as a very human franchise that showed those sides of the coin and several others. That was always one of the true appeals for me.

But, because people want to align a favorite franchise with their own thinking, you get the endless arguments over "are the Klingons Trump supporters" and "is Captain Picard an atheist" and all that mind-numbing shit.

Everyone likes to be binary for some reason.
    "Love or hate DSC"
    "TOS or Berman Trek"
    "Orville or DSC"
    "JJVerse good or JJVerse suck"
    "Starfleet military or not"

God, sometimes it's just like "fuk off and quit trying to make everyone fit into some absolute bucket"

    End rant

I had no idea politics was a factor. It's a TV show.

Just read the interwebs enough. People find a way to make it a factor. Despite how stupid that is.

How come we don't have threads for "Discovery vs Dancing with the Stars" or "Orville vs Dancing with the Stars"?

I'll agree as to the stupidity of it. But then, people read meaning into tea leaves. They see what they want to see, where they want to see it. Me? Just tell me a really good story.

Discovery vs. Chopped. They could have filmed that on the Glenn.

"The Discover Fleet travels the universe and explores new worlds" is the caption they chose for Star Trek: Discovery's listing.

    Long live the Discover Fleet.

Glad to hear it. But I wonder how long conservatives will hang in there. The DSC staff, I believe, is left leaning and I KNOW Seth McFarland is as well, though don't know about his writers. I can't see either show managing to completely steer clear of "thinly veiled" political allegories, so unless they are very careful, certain political viewpoints will show up in episodes.

I suppose it all depends on how far people are to one side. I've seen plenty of complaints that Discovery is an SJW-focused show.

I can only assume that's by virtue of having a diverse cast, since nothing else has struck me as being able to support that perception.

Even though I lean conservative on most issues, I also do not determine my political reality according to entertainment.

everything has been reduced to judging ones morality as left and right. its sad..its why our podcast leaves it alone almost entirely. it sucks the fun out of discussing anything..

Not to get too political in this thread, but there's only one true President, and he has orange skin, funny hair, calls people "dumbass" and other names all the time, and invites foreign diplomats from hostile nations beginning with the letter "R" to sit in on his meetings...

I'm currently in that exact boat. I've been writing website descriptions for various products, too. On my own time I pen my stories and drink enough tea to mask the crushing sense that they may never get published. I've just gotta keep at it, I reckon!
