Spoilers Discovery and the Novelverse - TV show discussion thread

I can't wait for it to not be called Hobus so we can distance the Litverse version as far as possible from Countdown.
I'll honestly be very surprised if they do call it something different. While they are of course not required to follow Countdown at all, the truth is with the Hobus name being used very prominently in Countdown and STO, it is at this point so engrained in fandom's mind that it more or less has become the default name. I can easily see the novels calling it by that name anyway. After all, it needs a name, and you might as well go with the one everyone's been using for nearly a decade.

We were talking about just calling it, "Carl."

IIRC, before they settled on "Kelvin Timeline" for the movie universe the Okudas used "Hobus timeline" as a placeholder while making the new Trek Encyclopedia.

There will be a supernova. Things will happen. Characters will react to those things.

They don't have to write for Spock no more. Although maybe they can bring back Spock 2 from "The Infinite Vulcan", shrink him down, and then merge him with another copy of Spock's katra he dropped off somewhere on the way to Romulus.

There'll still be plenty of TOS novels, I'm sure, so it's not like we'll never read another new Spock story again.

Doesn't he already have a copy of Spock's mind, though? Heck, if anything, his mind is closer to the original source than Spock Prime's. Think about it. Spock's mind was transferred into Spock 2 by Keniclius's machines, then transferred back into Spock by mind meld. So that means Spock had a second-generation copy of his own mind while Spock 2 had only a first-generation copy. And then Spock died and uploaded his mind into McCoy, so the katra in McCoy's head was third-generation, and that means when it was put back into the regenerated Spock (arguably also a clone of the original), that made it a fourth-generation copy -- and given how scattered his memories are, we can conclude it's not a lossless transfer. So the Spock 2 clone's mind is at least three generations closer to the source than Spock Prime's.

Of course, this isn't counting the time Spock's mind was transferred to a big shiny globe and then into Nurse Chapel before being put back in his head, since that was before the cloning and thus doesn't affect the difference in generations between the two Spocks.
