Spoilers Discovery and the Novelverse - TV show discussion thread

Read it again.

"Georgiou must either be connected to her in a chain of succession or might want to create that connection....."

He didn't give a straight answer. She could be, or she could not be.
He does give possibilities if she was.

He also says his tweets are not canon because it wasn't said on screen. Though we're in the lit subforum, that isn't a problem lol

But, he does make it clear Iaponius was included due to Sato. It is an on screen thing that was included, even if we don't know what that connection actually means.

Seems pretty clear. It's the new emperor adopting a title of the old emperor to present herself as the legitimate continuation of the line, like the way Julius Caesar's cognomen was adopted by later emperors as a title meaning "ruler" (and eventually evolved into other titles like Kaiser and Czar).

Mirror Georgiou doesn't strike me as the marrying type.
She could still have gotten married, though the marriage was likely done for political gain rather than love. Likewise, when the marriage ended, it likely wasn't through divorce, thus explaining why you don't see Mr. Georgiou in the Mirror Universe.

If we want to assume that the Emporer did not get her name from marriage, it may also be that Georgiou is a family name from several generations back by marriage but the majority of her lineage has been of east Asian descent. This doesn't coincide with Desperate Hours in which it is a name she kept from a divorce, but its the mirror universe. Everything is cook-y over there anyway.

I've always liked the theory that he was a robot. That way he is still an artificial lifeform.

Didn't the latest DS9 novel establish that Vic Fontaine is a fictional holocharacter, rather than a real 20th-century lounge singer? So maybe Felix based the character's name and appearance on a friend of his, or hired an actor to provide the program template, or something.

Grade A thinking (but that's what they pay you for). I honestly don't remember that detail, but it definitely would explain that particular change between universes. That was probably in The Long Mirage.

I haven't read any of the DS9 books since The Fall, but that would make sense.

Doc Zimmerman modeled the EMH on himself; Noonien Soong did the same with Data and Lore; therefore I see no reason why Felix wouldn't do the same with Vic. And it would also explain the mirror version actually being Felix.

I vaguely remember this. It's also never explicitly stated that Vic is modeled off of Felix. I recall them actually getting in contact with him and no one makes the observation that they look alike...but they also don't HAVE to make that observation if they already knew Felix. But I'm in the camp that Vic was not actually modeled off of Felix.

I am enjoying JD's suggestion that muVic is a robot. One more drop for the 'the Mirror Universe is whacky' bucket.

^ I dunno, after all the zillions of androids we've seen in the novelverse and their respective makers or races of origin, he could be a random one. Crazier things have happened.

I cannot remember about the novels at the moment, but that is what I have always assumed.

There are plenty of ways an android/robot version of Vic could end up existing in the MU.
