As you get older the fun from Christmas is more in the giving than in the getting.

I actually got a gift from my Mother in Law! Could've knocked me over with a feather. I got a small tube of hand lotion and a twenty dollar bill---in a paper sack. I don't think she's ever spent that kind of money on me.
She also gave hubby a twenty dollar bill---and a check for one thousand dollars. I guess she thinks the twenty dollar bill counts as a gift.
We bought her a blender, which was cheap, because she wanted a plastic one that she could actually lift.
The sister in law and her kids gave us both season one of Pushing Daisies (yay!) and a board game.
And I actually made it through the day without losing my temper or shooting my mouth off. But I did have to leave the room when crazy-ass sister in law started to ramble on and on. I played the Wii with the boys, mostly, and we watched Doctor Who together. Luckily, they didn't talk much. They were too busy eating (teenage boys--a veritable black hole for food).
Hubby definitely redeemed himself today. He cooked, cleaned, put the dishes up and even wrapped up the leftovers while I played the Wii with the boys. I barely had to do a thing.

Agreed, but it's more out of necessity than enjoyment.
As you become older, you end up getting less and less of the good stuff.
On the other hand, you have a rising urge to give it to other people, which may result in court orders and in extreme cases a position on some form of register for five years.

So for a Christmas present I sent one of my oldest friends ~ 30 years through first loves, first David Essex concerts, first bra fittings, first elicit ciggies behind the dung heap, first 'I'm going to be sick ~ hold my hair', first and second marriages (in her case!), first 'I'm in Dubai and I'm bored come and see me'... sorry I forgot myself...
So I lovingly wrapped a gorgeous pair of black suede gloves and sent.
What did I get in return? A bloody 'round Robin' letter of photos of her and her daughter on their new horses!
Sometimes you wonder why you are still friends with people!
(My tongue is firmly in my cheek whilst typing this ~ but)

It was a fairly typical Christmas for me- after opening presents and an early dinner, things went back to bickering, moody glares, and suchlike.
I got to go to France. Nice!

Someone else come up with a good Nice/Nice pun and save me the effort. I don't work at Christmas...![]()

The only thing worse than that are Brest jokes. Make too many of them in a serious discussion and you are going Toulouse.
As for everyone else I know, I got some rather nice pressies this year; mostly of edible or imbibable nature (all of which are always very welcome) in return for gifts of similar kind, although I also got an interesting book about my tailor too.

Lies! The older one gets the fun from Christmas is more in the excessive eating and drinking than anything remotely to do with presents.
So unless you meant giving other people indigestion, rather than getting it yourself, lies, I say again!![]()

Someone's written a biography of your tailor? He must be an incredible tailor. As for everyone else I know, I got some rather nice pressies this year; mostly of edible or imbibable nature (all of which are always very welcome) in return for gifts of similar kind, although I also got an interesting book about my tailor too.
The fun is in cooking Christmas dinner and watching it be completely consumed, then listening to everyone moan about having eaten to much!
And I actually made it through the day without losing my temper or shooting my mouth off...
Never mind, there's always next year to look forward to instead...![]()
