Disappointed by Lack of 50th Lit

If I look on the shelves currently there are bookazines and specials celebrating George Lucas, Ghostbusters and Superhero movies amongst just the sci fi genre. Why no Star Trek? I mean if Ghostbusters can support a 150 page special why not Trek? In my opinion they should be celebrating not ignoring.

And, godammit, I've got money I wanna spend on Trek and I can't find anything to spend it on!

You mean the pull out with the normal edition right?
Yep. The foil wrapper contains two magazines: a regular issue of "Empire" and a dedicated 50th anniversary magazine.

All I can do is browse the IDW catalogs, hope there is something in it and I order it before the month starts or I get nothing. Also it costs a premium. Premium as in each dollar costs me two euro's.

Australians have paid up to three times US cover price for Trek publications since the 1980s. In recent years, Simon & Schuster Aust. have taken on air-freighted copies of the Trek novels, absorbing much of the cost thatwere normally passed onto customers by the comic shops, thus also shortening the three-month sea-freight date so that we often get the books before USA.

I am though already thinking of adding a (bi-)monthly trip to Enschede or Leer (Ger) or Den Haag just to browse the comic shops.

Since 2000, I have done a one-hour weekly trip on an express train (and one-hour return) to collect my stash. Priorities!

Yes, I know, I bought it, I'm a regular reader/buyer of Empire, you implied that they had written about Trek in two consecutive issues, which they didn't, and although interesting, much of the "pull out" is recycled from old Empire editions.

I'm surprised that the 50th anniversary isn't very big in the UK. I have complained elsewhere in this forum about how difficult it is for us in Asia to find any Trek stuff, be it book or merchandise.

The biggest bookshop in the city where I live carries a tiny section of Trek books and comics (literally about 20 titles), but not the new ones / 50th anniversary ones. There were a couple of magazines with Beyond but very limited copies. They have more in their online shop, but I had to wait a couple of weeks before I got my books (Star Trek the Visual Dictionary from DK for my kids and The Star Trek Book).

This was unusual, usually I have to buy my books and dvds from Amazon UK and ship them here. Which is something I will have to do again come Christmas - to get my kids some Star Trek stuff.

I thought with the 50th anniversary it will be easier to find Star Trek books and merchandise. I guess I was wrong :(

I'm in the UK. Has to get myself an app subscription to the ST magazine because it's not in any frigging shop. You have DW and SW, but ST is still the embarassing franchise you don't want to be caught dead with.
In Ireland and Germany, you didn't get any magazines either, except Eaglemoss once in a while. /endrant

Any UK comic store could order in the ST magazine, esp. if you place a regular standing order for it. When I was in London in 2013 I spotted the magazine in "Forbidden Planet" and several other comic stores.

That assumes there is one nearby and of a good quality, comic shops vary greatly - the good ones are great, the bad ones you make a quick exit from!

Location also varies widely, mail order may well be the best option depending on geography.
