Disappearing baby...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 'Collective', don't they rescue a borg baby along with Icheb, Mezoti and the twins? Did they just toss it out the airlock or what?

Interesting theory.

I always assumed because it was a newborn, it was just resently assimilated so it must have come from a star system near by. Voyager just took it home.
 
The baby is last seen in Janeway's hands. I remember a lot of very funny rampant speculation based on that sequence... ;)
 
I don't think it disappeared. It's the fact that it's a baby. It can't do much of anything other than eat and soil it's diaper. So they just ignored it.
 
And they ignore him anyway, which is my point. In any case, this baby can download information via its cortical implants. I don't see the difference. ;)

Nope. They just ran out of opportunities to do follow-up scenes with the Borg baby, and it was essentially ignored. Baby actors are expensive and time-consuming, and require the use of gelatin SPFX makeups and very light glues.

There was a scene written for the episode when the twins' parents were found, and agreed to take care of Mezotti (and the baby) but the lines were trimmed for time (and concern that people probably had forgotten where the baby came from).
 
The baby vanished down a subspace whirlpool, like the one that swept Janeway's hair up on top of her head. Took her three years to get it down.
 
They used it to power the quantum slipstream drive. That's why they only used it the one time.

"we only have one shot at this because the baby is... I mean EXOTIC RARE CRYSTALS are decaying rapidly."
