Dirty Jobs

The new "season" of Dirty Jobs started a few weeks ago and I've been catching up on it on my DVR. Forgot what an entertaining show it is and a charismatic host Mike Rowe is.

I happened to catch it the other night. Not sure if it was a repeat but he was working with butchers who do onsite slaughtering. I have to hand it to him. I don't know if I would have been able to do it.

I don't watch the show regularly, but when I do, I always find it entertaining, as well as somewhat educational. Mike Rowe is why it's so watchable. He has a great, self-deprecating sense of humor, and you can tell that he has a lot of respect for people who do the "Dirty Jobs" for a living.

I'm surprised no one has tried to do a Dirty Jobs movie. Mike Rowe's a natural for this sort of thing.

And lest anyone think this is just a case of some actor parachuted in to do these jobs - keep in mind Mike's OWN experience doing a dirty job in real life:

After I watched the first season I started appreciating my office job thousand times more. That was unbelievable for me to find out how many disgusting jobs are there in the world.

Mike's a lot of fun as a host, and I enjoy the show when I remember to catch it. I have to turn off the more disgusting bits, though, especially if it's on at dinner time. I'm not going to be eating and watching Mike shove his arm up a cow's ass.

Why not? Shoving one's arm up a cow's ass is an essential part of.....of.....of whatever it's a part of

Mike on QVC is just awesome. His snark did him in in the end, but man it makes for some funny.

He's one of my favorite hosts in addition to the Mythbusters-- HEY! how cool would it be if Mike Rowe and the Mythbusters teamed up for some crazy dirty mythbusting event special!
haha

anyway . . . I don't like how Discovery and A&E and History all have specialized 'dirty job' shows focusing on just one barely interesting and mildly dangerous job and the crazy people who do it
Mike did it first and did it best

I wonder how loud our HR people would explode if I wore a "Safety Third" t-shirt to a staff meeting...

^^ I would LOVE that... However, it would NOT go over well in my profession (wildland firefighting)...
