Diet Sodas & Stroke...

^ Just because something comes from nature doesn't mean it's automatically good for you. The phrase "all natural" has come to be used as a marketing gimmick, nothing more.
The saying "you are what you eat." holds true and predates any corporation and marketing scheme.

I've never been able to tolerate artificial sweeteners. They either taste awful to me, or the ones that taste pretty good make me craaaaash, like the sugar high and crash effect except much worse.

To the people throwing around "all natural". EVERYTHING is all natural! There is not one thing that didn't somehow come from nature! Plastic is all natural. Cocaine is all natural. Pam Anderson is natural. The only things that may not be "natural" are those elements with 273 electrons we created in a lab for all of .000003 picoseconds.

^^^ Heh -- one of my pet peeves is when people say, "And it doesn't contain any chemicals!" I'm amazed at how often I see copy claiming that something contains "no chemicals".

Really, people?

Diet stuff, especially coke, makes me feel like im drinking liquid carpet and leaves a hideous film of gunk in my mouth. Give me a nice cup of English breakfast with full fat milk and two big sugars any day.

I'm amazed at the quantity of fizzy drink some people can get through in a day! Two Liters? If I drank that much I'd be pissing like a racehorse.

i use to drink a 12 pack of regular Coke a day. now, i'm down to three or four cans a day. i can't stop completely though, i get terrible terrible headaches.

Caffeine addiction. Get rid of it. Headaches will stop.

Yup. I used to be addicted to Code Red. About a week of agonizing withdrawal and I was rid of it. Now, I avoid the caffeine addiction by rarely drinking soda and only having 1-2 cups of coffee a day--and only on weekdays. Seems to stave off features of addiction pretty well.

What's funny about is that I can absolutely tell the difference between a caffeine withdrawal headache and a different kind of headache. Sometimes just a few sips of Coke helps. But to say that you can't quit completely is just silly. That's like saying, "I'm addicted to nicotine, so I can never stop smoking."

Nicotine and caffeine are both extremely addictive. The "can't" is a matter of willpower.

Switch to coffee! That's what I did! /twitch

Seriously, I love coffee. I used to be a big soda drinker but I quit when I was trying to lose weight. It worked. Not sure if it was just the soda, but I did lose weight.

That's my point. Yeah, quitting sucks, but you can absolutely do it if you want to.

Soda is one of the biggest contributors to obesity.

One drawback of the study is that participants were only asked about their soda habits at one time point; they could have changed over the study period, Gardener says. Also, there was no information on the types of soft drinks drunk, she says, pointing out that variations among brands, coloring, and sweeteners could have affected the results.

They were only asked about their soda consumption "at one time point" in a nine-year study? Does that mean they were only asked about it on their intake questionnaire? It certainly doesn't sound like it was a factor they paid any real attention to in any meaningful detail, especially since the researcher herself says there was no information on what diet sodas were actually consumed. Not exactly a basis for solid conclusions, there.
To be fair, the study wasn't looking at soda consumption. The study itself was collecting a lot of data on a lot of people and then watching them over time. These researchers looked at that dataset to see if diet soda intake correlated with any medical outcomes. All these guys did is statistics.

They did a study in Australia and yeah diet soda can also eat away your stomach lining...

I used to drink HEAPS of Coke Zero...now I have cut down because I watched an article on tv about a girl who only drunk coke zero and her teeth rotted and she got fat..

I drink tea or coffee...I can live without coke and all that..

I mean really this is supposed to be surprising? And aspartame is horrible for you, the studies are bullshit and probably paid off the people doing them. It's a made man chemical that at the very least causes diarrhea, but I'm sure that's perfectly healthy.
Everything, including you, is made of chemicals. And everybody dies sooner or later.

I drink a glass of Diet Coke once or twice a week because I like it. And I don’t suffer from diarrhea any more frequently than you do. (No, I’m not going to ask how often you have diarrhea.)

The hundreds if not thousands of studies by over 100 international regulatory agencies and numerous independent testing facilities over the course of decades were all bribed to falsify their results? And no one was a whistleblower?
They’ve all been paid off by the big, greedy, evil soft drink companies. Don’t you know? It’s a CONSPIRACY!

Once you wean yourself off them (takes a couple of weeks at least for your taste-buds to re-adapt to the taste of normal drinks), and you have them again after some time, they taste disgusting, sickeningly sweet, even the sugar-free types.
Coca-Cola has been around for more than 125 years. It has global name recognition and it’s sold just about everywhere. Sounds pretty “normal” to me.

. . . If you are diabetic you are more likely to have blood pressure and heart issues leading to heart aches and strokes.
So diabetics are more likely to have unhappy love affairs? Boy, that sucks!

Couple things I've learned over my long and healthy life:

Pure water will kill you if ingested.
Have you ever seen a Commie drink water?

In regards to this study, all that's been proven is a link - not cause and effect. It's based on self-reported food intake, and the people involved were asked at the beginning of the survey, instead of being checked on all throughout.
It’s what pollsters and statisticians call a “SLOP” — a Self-selecting Listener Opinion Poll. Even if the results show a correlation, that doesn’t prove causation. The whole thing is about as scientific as reading tea leaves. Herbal organic tea, of course.

They did a study in Australia and yeah diet soda can also eat away your stomach lining. . .
Bullshit. Your own natural stomach acid is more than ten times as acidic as Diet Coke.

I never touch aspartame....and I am finding it annoying how it ends up in other foods....I remember seeing some Mars chocolates and the label said "Natural Flavors" I called the number on the wrapper, and I asked the information person what it meant, and she said it was aspartame...ugh! I also found non-diet sodas containing aspartame in addition to the sugar, I mean corn syrup. So people are getting aspartame shoved down their throats and not even knowing it. Also, aspartame, at a certain temperature, somewhere in the 80's, I believe, converts into formaldehyde, and when it's in your body, which is close to 100 degrees, I could see it converting, alright. And why does that rat-ass bastard, Donald Rumsfeld (yea, that guy, one of Bush's puppet string pullers)wants Aspartame in ALL our foods, he said it publicly, that he wants that junk in all our foods. He and Reagon were buddies in the 1980's, and was able to get aspartame approved for consumption rather quickly cause ole' Ronnie owed him an old favor. Hell, in some South American countries, they mix aspartame with steavia....bad news if you are looking for something safe, like steavia.

And aspartame started out as an ulcer drug, and the guy making it got some on his fingers....and the moron he was, decided to taste it, and noticed it was sweet, and so, on that alone, it became a sweetener. Sorry, but just because some mainstream news source says it's safe, I am not going to simply believe it, especially since mainstream media is bought and controlled by so many companies.

Aspartame, MSG, high fructose corn syrup, fluoride (I always see fluoride trucks with skull on crossbones stickers on the tanks), various food dyes and GMO foods.....are all poisons and bad news....and if you're feedings your friends and family that stuff, shame on you.

You must live a very frightening existence of your own creation.

fluoride (I always see fluoride trucks with skull on crossbones stickers on the tanks),

Hexafluorosilicic acid is mildly corrosive in pure form and can cause burns, so carries a hazard label. The flouride ions it is used to generate are a) not chemically the same thing and b) revolutionary in preventing tooth decay.

No, just a fellow who looks up stuff and does not want bad stuff in his body.

Yea, I know, independent thinking is not cool and all, but I don't care.
