Die Hard, did you watch it?

As a matter of fact, I DID watch it, (just not on Christmas, it was more like eight days ago) but Christmas had nothing to do with it (that's what the Grinch cartoon is for.)

After my Farscape re-watch ended, I couldn't decide what show to replace it with so I replaced it with a movie series instead. Die Hard (all five of them) just happened to be what I picked.

Now I'm in the middle of the Star Wars series. Literally. This morning was Episode IV.

You know as well as I do that this is the mother of all Christmas movies. It's about a man who sacrifices everything in order to be together with his family for the holidays. The movie is filled with Christmas symbolism, music, and imagery.

Christmas isn't over until I've watched it. So, how about you?

Did you watch Die Hard?

Yep, from about 11PM on Xmas Eve to 1AM on Xmas Day, as usual...

Christmas isn't over for me yet then, but I will be watching it sometime this week, probably tomorrow (Sis and I went looking for the DVD tonight).

Die Hard IS Christmas. I watch it every year around the holiday with my family. It's my second favorite movie behind The Thing (which we also watch every Christmas). This year was very special: it was shown on the big screen at our local theatre for one night only. So freakin' awesome. Theatre was packed with people who knew all the best lines, and who laughed and cheered whenever McClane iced a badguy. It was great!

"Nice suit. John Philips, London. I have two myself. Rumor has it Arafat buys his there, too."

-Hans Gruber, best movie villain ever

Alan Rickman needs to be in the next Expendables movie as the ultimate villain mastermind. Of course, without Bruce, it wouldn't be quite as meta-awesome.

I love the deadpan line by the FBI guy: "I'm Agent Johnson and this is Special Agent Johnson." (pause) "No relation." :guffaw:

They should do an anti-Expendables about villains.

This would (or could) be so much better than the actual Expendables.

It's Rickman's lines I tend to remember the most. He has about a dozen or more classics.....a good ratio to Willis's.

Oh yes.

"Nice suit. [awkward pause] John Phillips, London... I have two myself. Rumour has it Arafat buys his there."

"Mister Takagi. I could talk industrialization and men's fashion all day, but I'm afraid work must intrude and my associate here has some questions for you. Sort of fill-in-the-blanks questions, really."

"I wanted this to be professional, efficient, adult, cooperative. Not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way... so he won't be joining us for the rest of his life."

And the all-out greatest Gruber moment is when he's discovered by McClane and brilliantly begins his ''fake American escaped hostage'' mode.

Agreed, awesome moment.

Man, I almost forgot about Con Air. Yes, Malkovich, Rhames, Trejo and Buscemi all portraying villains was quite a feast.

"Hi, this is Agent Johnson... No, the other one."

During that line I just wonder if the person on the other end of the phone said, "The black one?!"

Hope my theater does that some day, they occasionally play older movies from time to time. Die Hard is one I'd love to see on the big screen.

One thing I learned from this movie: That trick about beating jet lag by walking around on a carpet, barefoot, and making fists with your toes? It actually works.
