In a way, they all did emulate the original actors to a certain extent in mannerisms and occasional character quirks such as sitting in certain ways, walking certain ways and even cocking an eye brow in a certain way. So yes, to a certain extent.
But on the whole, no. As said they went their own way regarding playing a character. Like each Bond actor has thrown out waht the previous actor did and started fresh with their own approach. There is nothing worse than coppying a performance, sometimes it doesnt work but other times it works a gem.
To me, Pine emulated Shatner on more than one occassion. THe very end where hes sitting in the chair cros legged, both arms on the rests and looking in a way where he couldve been Shatner. The other time is where he and Spock are talking to Nero, he and Spock hit it off exactly how they wouldve in the show, the offer of help and the following refusal and the eventual "ok, suit your self." attitude where the viewer is turned off then they leave them to get on with it. Typical classic Kirk.
As for Quinto, yeah in some instances he was Nimoys Spock, but, as the alternate reality explanation was used, they could go in their own direction with what they had been given. Quinto was essentaily his own Spock, Especially when addressing the Vulcan Council on his science academy application, Nimoys Spock wouldve never done that, yeah maybe after spending too much time around Kirk and McCoy wouldve influenced his human side, but as for the movies purpous of showing it early so the audience get the fact he is an emotionaly charged half-breed didnt matter.
Yelchin as Chekov, well, that was an intentional impression by Yelchin anyway, he sounded like Koenig, had his frustration down to a T aswell, where he left the Conn and the trouble of talking ot the computer with his service ID "Wictor Wictor".
The others not so much, i didnt see anything from Pegg that was remotely linked to Doohan other than the occasional line thrown in the script. Pegg seemed to also sleep-walk through the movie. Im a fan of Pegg, always have been but he seemed awkward and didnt seem to settle.
I agree and I was remiss in pointing out Karl Urban. His portrayal was definitely an homage to De Kelley.
Paying homage? I could have sworn Urban was channeling Kelley.
No no no, you have it all wrong. Kelley was taking over Urbans body in an attempt to steal his glory. Kelley came back after 10 years in limbo to claim one final victory. He played McCoy again and wowed us. Hail De Kelley, we are not worthy.
Seriously, Urbans portrayal of McCoy will stay with me forever. Perfect. Astounding. It was De Kelley, but it was down to Urbans sheer respect and love for the character that he played it so vividly and respectfully.
Urban for best actor oscar, or at least a Saturn award.
