Did they redo the Remastered effects a 2nd time?

I was wondering...did they redo the new effects for The Doomsday Machine a 2nd time? Because I dont remember it looking that good the first time i saw the remastered effects last year. Especially at the end. Damn that was good.

I hope they tweaked a few of the earliest TOS-R episodes before committing them to HD-DVD. It was a little shaky early on. TDM was the stride they really needed to hit (and they did, IMO).

I was impressed with the job they did with The Doomsday Machine when it originally aired. I've got it stored on my DVR and it still impresses me whenever I get the urge to watch it.

But they didn't. The episodes on HD-DVD are the same versions that aired on TV. Including the early episodes with the first model. Maybe if a complete series set is released later they'll fix the early episodes. But as of now all the problems you saw on TV appear on HD-DVD.

At a Creation con, Mike Okuda said that there was no time to redo the effects for the season one HD DVD. I speculate that it will be the same for seasons two and three.

It makes me kind of sad that they did Balance of Terror so early then. I would have liked to see it get treatment with the new and improved model.

Balance of Terror was severely cut for broadcast, it's even missing a special effect shot near the end where the Romulan Ship is crippled in space. Was this shot redone as CGI even though it wasn't in the broadcast? is this episode still cut on the HD-DVD? what about Doomesday Machine with the "vulcan's never bluff" line. I need to hear from someone who owns them before I buy them.

Not that I am aware of.
I work at Future Shop and a coworker advised me of the availability of the box set of TOS-R. Even with staff purchase discount I told him thanks for the info but no thanks I'm not buying.

I distincty remember the Okudas and Rossi and Co. saying that they 'would' go back and redo the shots for the first shows they did with the old model.... Damn. Were the deadlines really that 'hard' that they couldn't be in time, certainly they had time constraints for the new syndication package and the HD DVD release but c'mon guys, I've always appreciated their work, but this is a shame.

Early on it was said that they weren't remastering them for the edited aired versions, they were simply remastering them. The whole episode was done in each case, and then it was edited down to fit in today's "15 minutes of ads per hour" timeslot.

I agree.

When they announced the release of the season one set, I wondered how they could make the deadline, since they'd already said the earliest aired episodes needed to be redone and some of those were from eeason one.

Chalk it up to the guys with the talent being messed with by the guys with the power.

Actually, all they ever said was that they 'wanted to' redo some of the earlier episodes once they had a more render friendly model. HOWEVER remember that CBS/Paramount is footing the bill; and any 'extra' work like that would up the budget (nobody works for free); and I can bet CBS is sitting there going - "Hey, it's already 40 years old; and we just want the effects watchable in HD format; which is what we now have for these episodes. WHY should we spend MORE money? You need to get it right the FIRST time."

I dunno, I would love to hear from Mike Okuda on this sometime, I wonder if/when he has time he might drop in and let us know if there is any chance those eps will be re-remastered wih the great new Enterpise they are using now.

There's always a chance. Plenty of other upcoming ST anniversaries. But by the time we get to that TOS might be being presented in interactive holographic 3D with Sensurround.
