Did they redo the Remastered effects a 2nd time?

I'm wondering this-

If they're going to CHANGE THE TOS ENETERPRISE for the new movie, why didn't they just use that design on TOSR?

I know...it probably hadn't been finalized yet, and there'd be all the screams from fans who'd say "But you've RUINED the episodes!!!"

Personally, I want them to use the original design (which James Cawley says it seems they aren't), but if they aren't, then why not just change the original to the new design so there'll be at least SOME consistency?

Supposedly the new movie takes place within the existing timeline.

If that's so then how's about things LOOKING like they ARE the existing timeline, and not some parallel universe?

It seems the schedules are too tight to "homogenize" the effects.

If so, then maybe someone shouldn't have scheduled a release before the work was actually done.

And where do they pull the extra budget to redo the first few episodes?

Delaying the set for another year means that they lose the chance for a year of buzz about TOS to lead into the new movie. Sales and consumer reviews about the DVD sets will inform CBS of the next move.

There will never be "a definitive version" of every episode, so look forward to several more decades of TOS keeping pace with the changes to TV FX.

Or simply hold onto your old DVDs, or VHS tapes. Or find the episodes on 16mm, like a friend of mine did.

They are treating this just like a new series. I am sure the visual effects people working on TOS, TNG, ENT, etc would have liked to go back and tweak the VFX on some of the earlier episodes but didn't get a chance, same is probably true for TOS-R. Having all the effects in CGI makes changes easier, but this is still a big company and everything needs to be budgeted and approved.

You're confused.

Here...let me explain.

Nobody said "delay for another year", and it wasn't US who said the earlier efforts would be redone...

It was the staff themselves.

What I said was that if the episodes weren't ready to go to disc and the re-working of the earliest efforts wasn't finishsed, then the DVD set shouldn't have had a releasse date scheduled.

Maybe you've forgotten but the promise to redo the earliest aired TOSR episodes was made first and THEN it was said the first season would come out late this year.

They should have waited a few more months so the re-workiing could be finished and used on the DVDs.

Again, the guys with the talent who knew what they needed to do were ignored by the guys in the suits who had the power and were thinking in terms of dollars rather than quality.

I'm not confused at all. But marketing departments choose release dates very carefully. I'm with Cyrus; artists are always expected to make do with budgetry and time constraints. But I also don't see why you take such exception to a company announcing a release date and deciding to stick with it.

Imagine the weeping and gnashing of teeth around here if the date was rescheduled - by any time at all! If you're so offended, then refuse to buy the set.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that few Trek fans would have been pissed if the HD DVD set launch was delayed a month or two so that Okuda and the great people doing the fx work could redo those first few eps. Yes, CBS Paramount home entertainment wanted the pre-Holiday release date, and I'm sure they wanted it badly.

Here's hoping that by the time the 18 month deal between Paramount and the HD Dvd group expires, that they will deliver a redone version of these eps. for the Blue Ray masters :)

PS. I know a bit about this whole process. I worked at Paramount for 12 years, then at CBS in the very office that processed these and other video/dvd/hd dvd masters.

Ignoring my views on the remastering of effects, I would rather wait and have uniform effects for all of the three seasons.
