Did they overdo the amount of aliens in Titan?

The Science Fiction Museum, sadly, has apparently been dismantled. The rock-music museum has pretty much taken over the whole formerly-combined facility. However, there's still a Blade Runner spinner hanging from the ceiling and a Battlestar Galactica exhibit (for now), and there's an Avatar exhibit under construction for later.

Well, no, he's a deerlike herbivore with an ostrichlike body shape.

Huh. I totally had him wrong, then. I remember his features being described as more delicate, but I always just thought he was a smaller more delicate sort of lizard-like creature.

The rest I knew, I was just trying to be brief with my summaries, but I'll cop to imagining him wrong.

I do remember your drawing of Torvig, too, but I guess without coloring it wasn't different enough from my mental image to alter it any.

That drawing of Torvig on memory beta is pretty cool. There was a sketch of him for a proposed animated titan series I didn't like as much.
I love Torvig, my favorite in the series. Loved in Torrent Sea when he built a diving suit.

To answer the original thread question, I love the variety of aliens on Titan. It more closely resembles what I would expect in a multi species federation.
That said, I get confused remembering what everyone looks like and wish standards were drawn up. Also, with all the sleeping around with different aliens. I'll bet doctor Ree has a gold mine for std research.

I don't have all of the Titan books...is there one in which the various characters are illustrated, Photoshopped, what-have-you?

I like the variety of characters and the description of them in each book. You almost need that with the length of time between each book. All authors of any genre describe each and every character in each book. That way any new person or old person can get a refresher of who the character is.

Is there a link to all the pictures of the Titan characters or should I just look up on the trek wiki?

So far the only illustrations we've gotten have already been linked to here. Christopher's sketches from his annotations for OH, and Geoff's that were on Andy Mangel's page.

^ Those were interesting and would be great for a stylized animated series but not the best life-like interpretations. Very helpful for sculpting a mental picture, though.

I laugh every time I see that handle bar mustache. I didn't know one of the village people was trill!?!

Because homosexual characters with mustaches are always to be the butt of the joke? Missing the point. And, also, if I'd wanted to draw photo real characters, I would have. These were quick sketches for a desired animated series.

I really like the style you used for the drawings, and I think it would be perfect for a Titan animated series.

Man... you sure did make a quick leap to this being a slam against homosexuals.

yeah? You should see how fast I "leap" when people make black jokes.

But aren't you guys the ones making the joke? You decided what he looks like and you did pick a very obvious gay stereotype as a template.

I think you'll find, if you look at films like gladiator, the road warrior, braveheart, highlander, or, you know, any movie depictiing hard core warrior types, you'll find at least a few who fit Rahul keru's description. Mustache and all. I don't know that those were gay. I don't know that they weren't. I do know that lots of heavy metal bands and biker gangs also sport versions of that look. Fell like making village people cracks with them? I bet not.

I don't make race, ethnic, gender or sexuality based jokes either by intent or by implication. Nor, I'll wager, do any of the other TITAN authors. Any "joke" you see there, you brought in with you.

I'll be honest... the very first time I saw the picture of Keru, I thought of the bikers at the Blue Oyster Room from the Police Academy movies. I was disappointed. I would think a gay man from a culture hundreds of light years away, that has differing attitudes towards gay people, would have had a more unique look. YMMV.

well. The good news is, if you're really that bugged, you can always pick up a pencil and draw or write your own. Big old world out there. Lots of variation. I'm sorry if the limited scope of some readers leads them into ugly places...

Wait. No I'm not.

That's their problem, not mine.
