Did the Xindi War kill the Archer character for you..

To be honest the Xindi Arc somewhat increased my interest in the character - except the stupid I'm mommy to the insects episode.

Sadly war brings out the worse in people. War brings out the worst in governments. To win a war one must be as ruthless as one's enemies. But the race Archer stole the warp core from was not involved in the war. Archer should have been court marshaled and stripped of his rank or Archer should have been forced to return to the planet of the race he stole the warp core from to face charges. The failure of the Admiralty to correct Archer's crime after the Zendi threat had been ended, or any other Star Fleet vessel to correct Archer's crime, to check upon and aid the vessel the warp core was stolen from is equally wrong. That failure seams to make the Admiralty as guilty of the crime as Archer was.

Math seems pretty simple here to me...

Send a few dozen people on a slow ride home or allow six billion to be massacred. This was the point where Archer earned my respect. He made a decision to save his people and the decisions that allowed him to do it will weigh heavy on him for the rest of his days. There is no other penalty that needs to be inflicted. Historians will be the ones to pass judgement on whether he made the right decision or not.

I think that episode did a great job of showing that in war everything is not always a clear choice between right and wrong.

So the end justifies the means?

I have only watched about 4 episodes of this arc so far, and already I am not liking what Archer is becoming. If he continues to change through out the duration, I am certain I will not be able to find any redeemable quality in him by the end.

Archer- Dagnabit forget about that I have to try to sacrafice myself for the fifth time this year because I am too manly and too fatherly a Captain to let more experianced people say like Mayweather steer the Insectoid ship into the superwomen...
Sorry, that just cracked me up.:lol::lol:

I mean, poor Wonder Woman...

If you save 10 billion lives at the cost of inconveniencing less than 50 people?

Principles and morality are all about putting the good of society over the good of the individual, their evolutionary purpose is to keep the human species functioning as a unit so we can defend against predators. When you are talking about the survival of the human species morality doesn't apply because it was not designed to deal with such a huge scenario, it was designed to prevent hungry apes stealing bananas in the night. In Archer's predicament he had to fight against what he felt was the right thing in order to do what was actually right, if he hadn't then his instinctual response which was designed to protect the human species would have led to our annihilation.
