Did the UK see the "My name is Amy" prologue?

I was dismayed to see that damn prologue thing back. Really hate where it's placed and agree with others that it should be before the teaser.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks it's hilarious! LOL.
You think it's "hilarious" that that little prologue is placed before the credits? Do you laugh out loud when you hear "Space, the final frontier" before the Star Trek theme kicks in?

My money on that answer would be no because that's something completely different.

Of course, I personally don't find either hilarious.

I've already explained in the thread why i think the recap is hilarious.

You've said it was a joke, a parody on other genre programmes, nothing in that intro/recap or what ever you want to call it implies that one bit. It's meant as an info dump for people who unlike you and I who don't have more than a cursory knowledge of Doctor Who.

So do you laugh out loud to "Space the Final Frontier" when it's on TOS or Next Gen as The Mirror Ball asked you.

^ No because that's not a recap is it? You answered that part of the question yourself :) I am well aware of the actual reason why it is in there in the first place. I just wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a cheeky attempt at Moffat to poke fun at recaps as well. There's no need to be serious about it lol.

I didn't mind the first episode because it was there to perform a specific function. I don't like it now. It dumbs down the show and makes it "different" from the UK broadcast version. No reason now for that.

^ I will agree that it becomes pointless if it's going to be in every other episode or whatever.

It's possible last week it was left off in error. Or, for some reason, they've decided not to put it on the second part of a two-parter (we'll see in a couple of weeks). Maybe they're preparing to make omnibuses?

Incidentally, this isn't something completely new to the franchise, of course. As noted, SJA added one for the third season (which I thought was actually quite good) and Torchwood had one too early on.

Thanks for the replies. Although I understand why they do it, and I don't mind them doing it, seeing it again last night got me thinking that it really does paint the show as being The Amy Pond Show, which could backfire when Amy inevitably leaves. Also, why doesn't it mention Rory? Is this intro somehow telegraphing something about Rory's status on the show, both as a companion and as her husband?

I'd much rather the intro be done by the Doctor and done more in the spirit of Eccleston's now-classic "Do you wanna come with me?" promos from 2005:

Although it could have stood to be a little less "arty", I still think the 2005 promos were among the best I've seen for generating interest in the show. "The trip of a lifetime!"

Or they could have gone for the sexy, like this little Billie Piper promo also from 2005:

(not really, but any excuse to put out a link to the "infamous" Rose miniskirt promo! The only time - think about it - in her entire time on the show that Rose borrowed something from Amy's wardrobe!)

I don't know what Space showed, but BBC America's intro does feature Rory pretty heavily in the footage that Amy narrates.

In a way, the Amy Pond intro reminds me of Howard da Silva's introductions to the Tom Baker episodes. Maybe not everyone gets nostalgic for Whovian ephemera like that, but I think it's fun. :)

Another thing I noticed last night. BBC America recut the "Next Time" trailer so that it differed from the BBC's "Next Time" trailer. It wasn't as radical as the recut trailer they had after "The Impossible Astronaut" (which had a lot of footage the BBC trailer did not), but it added some captions, and it put the Ood in the middle of the trailer rather than at end end.

Well last year was all about Amy and the Cracks and this year is all about Amy and her Magic Baby, so in an (unfortunate) sense it is The Amy Pond Show, whether we like it or not.

And season one and two were the Rose Tyler Show, season three was the Martha Jones Show and season four was the Donna Noble Show.

But seriously, we're three episodes in, we have ten episodes left to what makes you think you know exactly what's going to happen in the future? Have you seen the future or are you someone on the production crew?

I know enough about what happens in episodes 7,8 & 13 to say that this year is indeed the Amy and Baby show.

No. You think you know because of spoilers which may or may not be accurate. It's all down to context and what actually happens and given how all the previous NuWho seasons have concentrated on the companions, you may be right. Until episode 13 airs in the Autumn, you may be completely and utterly wrong though.

Well, considering that there already was a hint at the Schrödinger pregnancy of Amy in the third, unrelated episode, just like we saw hints at the crack throught last season, it's pretty safe to say that this season will heavily evolve around Amy (she's also seen the eyepatch lady again this week) and her pregnancy.
So, yeah, it sort of is the "Amy show" in a way. In the RTD era, the Doctor had his "coming to terms with the Time War" storyline while nowadays it's more about Amy and the mysteries surrounding her. Personally, I like it better when the Doctor also has some sort of personal storyline, though it was rarely the case in the classic series. I really liked the Third Doctor's exile arc, too.

In what way is he poking fun at them? It's a completely straightforward mission statement, there's nothing in it that makes fun at any literary convention. Honestly, it's so short that there wouldn't be any room to turn it into a satire. What exactly leads you to think that it is in any way meant to be ironic?

"When I was a little girl, I had an imaginary friend, and when I grew up, he came back. He’s called the Doctor. He comes from somewhere else. He’s got a box called the TARDIS that’s bigger on the inside and can travel anywhere in time and space. I ran away with him, and we’ve been running ever since."

So, which part is "poking fun at recaps"? Which part is "hilarious"?

@The Mirrorball Man...this is simply the opinion I have of it. The fact that's there in the first place is why I think it's poking fun at it. That's fine if you dislike it or can't see the humor in it. I maybe completely off my fucking rocker but this is how I choose to perceive the recap. Again...no need to take it fucking seriously. You don't like it, fine. I've taken a drastically different view of it that no one else accepts. No big deal.
