Combining the first movie and the second movie together is a sham because many people have separate opinions of them. So, just talking about Star Trek Into Darkness, did this film meet your standards as a Star Trek film, or did it disappoint you in any way?

Yes it did meet my expectations. I actually like it better than Star Trek (2009).

STAR TREK '09 could've so easily have been successful, just on the hype it got. ST:ID was The Test, to see if general audiences really took an interest in this franchise, without all of that and it passed with flying colours! It did great business, was incredibly successful and what a find Alice Eve was ... if I had any complaint about ST:ID, it was that there wasn't enough Alice Eve.

Yes, it certainly did. Were there a couple of things "I" would have done differently, yes, but that doesn't detract from the fact that I still enjoyed it.

STID is my favorite Trek movie of them all. It contained almost every element that I'd personally want to see in a Trek movie, especially fidelity to the main characters.

On the big screen, on opening night, absolutely. I came out of the cinema totally pumped up at the roller coaster balls-out blockbuster I'd just been subjected to. Subsequent re-watches have exposed it's flaws for sure, and there's decisions that the writers made that I wouldn't have taken, but I still enjoy the movie immensely.

Eh, it's not a sham. It's just a different poll.

So, just talking about Star Trek Into Darkness, did this film meet your standards as a Star Trek film, or did it disappoint you in any way?
This poll currently stands at 73.33% Yes and 26.67% No.

Previous polls for the movies separately used different scales, so they won't be an exact match to each other, nor will they exactly match a simple "Meet your standards?" Yes/No poll, but here are the simplified results for whatever comparisons may be made:

Star Trek (2009)

Excellent/Above Average - 81.62%
Average/Below avg./Poor - 18.39%

Star Trek Into Darkness

B- or above - 76.07
C+ or below - 23.92

Also:

Did you like the reboots?

Yes - 77.22%
No - 22.78%

Again, they won't match exactly, but I am seeing a common general shape to the results.

You're not going to win this one either.

The problem I have with it, is they used the same exact formula as in the first movie: Angry, evil villain is hell bent on revenge because he somehow got screwed so he goes out destroying things, with lots of space battle and explosions. It's up to Kirk and crew to somehow, against all odds, stop the angry, evil villain and save the day!! Not to mention redoing Khan. Wasn't the whole point of the reboot to allow them to ignore the prime universe and tell new stories? And yet, the second movie in, is just a rehash of the second prime universe movie.

Heck, didn't the last TNG movie use that same formula? That's the problem with Star Trek on the big screen. Since the movies only come out every 3-4 years, Hollywood feels it has to play it safe and use that same formula over and over and over. That's why I can't wait until the NuTrek movies are done, hopefully Trek will find its way back on TV where it belongs. Maybe then (with new writers) we can get back to "exploring strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before!" :techman:

Would that include This Ain't Star Trek?

My only standards for a Trek film is it must have "Star Trek" in the title.

That is a very low standard.

I was not expecting more "no" votes than "yes," but I did want see how the percentages varied from other polls.

The bar set by the bulk of the Trek films is pretty low, so it's not hard to meet or beat.

Yes. But then my standards for a Star Trek film aren't very high--nor are my expectations.

Standards and expectations are not the same thing. If the film does not meet your standards, it means you were disappointed in the final product.
