Did Phase II ever explain why they backed off on the Enterprise refit?

Re: Did Phase II ever explain why they backed off on the Enterprise re

I don't watch Cawley's show because for all the hard work they put in as regards sets, CGI etc, I find the acting, casting and soundmixing of dialogue to be woeful.

But, that said, I can still recoginise the merits of the hard work and I have to say that I think it is a very, very good idea to try and move the show towards TMP with the Phase II elements. It shows creativity, brings interest to the show and helps, through fan creativity, give us a little flavour of what could have been. With many other fan productions sticking to established eras I think the idea of doing this brings fresh air to the prime universe continuity and, whilst I won't be watching for the reasons I said above, I wish them the best of luck as this is certainly, logically, the best direction to take the production, rather than just stagnating in the TOS era.

Cawley's production has gotten better. The acting is still rough around the edges now and then, and I still sometimes cringe like I'm watching kids pretend to be Kirk and Spock, but they've got some terrific scripts and the performances are improving. They're learning as they're going and they don't give up. I see lots of good things coming from this team in the future.

[double checks crystal ball]

Yes. Lots of good things.

Re: Did Phase II ever explain why they backed off on the Enterprise re

The E was in drydock for repairs at the end of Enemy: Starfleet. That was setting up a possible refit but, frankly, this model wasn't ready for the release of "The Child". Folks should understand that the VFX work for our episodes are done very early into the post production process. (What slows us down getting us to a release is actually getting all the FOOTAGE filmed)

So, at this point all the VFX work for "Kitumba" is completed with the old girl. (and the work by Tobias is heart-stopping). So we may see this new design in the episode with Cadet Kirk in it... which will be kind of ironic coolness. The older girl and the refit girl in the same episode.

Of course, as we have a bunch of missing stuff from Kitumba that has to be filmed, I won't rule out that Tobias will go back and insert the new ship because he has the time to work on stuff...

See? I said it needed some red and orange in the Bussards. :D

Yup, I said the same thing. :) It really helps lend the new elements of the ship some comforting familiarity...plus I think it just looks warmer than the cold blue.

Well, Star Trek is comfort food after all; Mom's mac-and-cheese.

For the most part, I think casting has been good, and I have enjoyed the acting. I've also noticed sound issues with some of the actors. I just think the levels are a bit off for some of them. I recently had to go in and fix the audio on a film I'm working on where one of the actors was as quiet as a church mouse. A bit of tinkering with the audio for a few of the actors in post would probably fix these issues (I'm looking at you, Spock!) ;)

Re: Did Phase II ever explain why they backed off on the Enterprise re

The Sound Recordist should point out to the director when an actor is difficult to hear. And, just as you can set one channel on a stereo mic a bit lower than the other as safety in case of a spike, you can conversely set one channel higher than another to get a clearer recording of a soft-spoken actor.

The acting on Phase II is about par for the course for fan films in general, so I'm not going to pillory it for that.
