I have to admit I kinda feel the same way. Somewhere along the way, I think ol' Harlan crossed the line from "grumpy but amusing curmudgeon" into "ill-tempered and unpleasant old man" territory.

Terms of the settlement in that case were not disclosed, if I remember correctly, but I do seem to recall Harlan saying words to the effect that he was satisfied with the outcome.
Nope. That's just a thing which gets repeated on internet forums by people who've never taken trouble to learn anything about him.
Try reading some of his non-fiction - An Edge in My Voice, for example; you might just find that some of Harlan's best rants involve him gleefully demolishing a misconception with fact and reason, rather than arising from him being pissed off about anything.
Well, it just seems like you all have a pretty strong opinion about him based on some inside info and I'm not understanding it without the context, which isn't something I'd get from Google.

I didn't think it was that ambiguous. I asked how he related to Star Trek because everyone in this thread seems to think he has a problem with it for some reason. I don't have a whole lot of an idea of what to ask, because I don't know the backstory. If I Google'd him or looked him up on Wikipedia, I would've learned who he is, but not who he is in regards to the Star Trek universe, because the episodes he's written.
This is a Trek board and you guys obviously know what's going on with him and this thread is for talking about him, so I don't understand why there's such a problem with me asking what the deal about him actually is.
Welcome to the board. Some things can be taken for granted, like an awareness of Harlan Ellison and the controversy over 'The City on the Edge of Forever' so folks can be impatient with questions about such stuff. But given that it was almost 50 years ago and lots of new folks are still coming along, why should you know about it? I'm not really new, though I am to these boards. I grew up watching Star Trek, but all I had to go on for the background of these shows were stories that my dad told me, who learned them from fanzines and newsletters before the internet existed. So I'm still suffering from misinformation, old rumors, and just lack of knowledge.
I recently learned from somebody that Roddenberry apparently didn't even have anything to do with the TOS movies, which I thought was strange. I think my father believes that he had total control over the movies and TNG, as opposed to TOS which was mostly controlled by the studio. I realize that last bit is actually true, but apparently the portion regarding the movies isn't.
